suck一词的用法

"The stock market has continued to suck in investors,pushing the Shanghai Composite Index to a new record high yesterday when the exchanges reopened after a three-day New Year break."(China Daily,Jan.5)
看到China Daily上的这句话愣了一下才反应过来这里suck是什么意思，对这个词不怎么理解，个人觉得这里用得不怎么好，特别学习一下。

suck本义就是吸、吮吸: to take liquid, air, etc. into your mouth by using the muscles of your lips.
The little baby sucked milk from his mother's breast.
Stop sucking your thumb!
The injury sucked his burned finger.

或者引申为吸入、吸收等动作或结果:to take in and consume by or as if by suction
The vacuum cleaner sucked up dirt.
