As a coach, you have many responsibilities and must deal with a wide array of situations. But there are still some basic principles you can follow to be an effective coach which I extracted from the book.
- Build talent - an important first step is to study the team members, to learn about their potentialities, and to see how to help them improve.
- Set high standard - to recognize where and how proven methods can be used and then helping the team members to use these method consistently.
- Focuse on success - your focuse must be on succeeding with project and team.
- Focuse on improvement - focuse on gradual improvement, help members learn from the project and motivate them to follow the process even better the next time.
- Improve in steps - insist on quality work is important, insist on perfection.
- Celebrate every step - focuse on the improvement the member have made and cheer every achievement, no matter how small.
Reason for TSP lunch:
- to produce the team plan and to get management's agreement
- to build the TSP team
- to build the team's ability to produce plans and to sell plans to managment
- to build the team's confidence in their ability to do quality work, even in the face of sever pressure and strss, this is the most important.
