A standalone keyboard typically has one dedicated electrical connection for each key on the keyboard. When a key is pressed, it sends a signal through its dedicated connection, which is then recognized by the computer or device. On the other hand, a matrix keyboard uses a grid of electrical connections to recognize key presses. Rows and columns of keys are connected to different pins on a microcontroller or other circuit board. When a key is pressed, it completes a circuit between a specific row and column, allowing the microcontroller to recognize which key was pressed. Matrix keyboards are often used in electronics projects where space is limited, as they require fewer connections than standalone keyboards. However, they can be more complex to program and may not offer the same level of tactile feedback as standalone keyboards.
