2010-10-04 Write something everyday

In order to record my daily life and improve my written English, I would start to write diary everyday from today.

Today I read two quite good blogs from two IR researchers. The first is about trending topics in twitter written by Jeff Dalton, and the second is so you want to study IR?

Twitter, and other microblogs, have become a popular way for people to share real-time information. Personal tweets are only interested to few people, but when some event happens. There maybe thousands of people tweet on the same information, and this becomes a trending topic. Several problems that come into my mind are: How do we define a event? Is that a Name Phrase? What is the difference between query log and tweets when we analyzing the event? These are problems worth of investigating.

The second article really provides a vast amount of information on IR resources.

Today I continue to working on phpMyadmin and MySQL. I wish I could finish the crawling program of Yahoo! Answers today.
