overdue

形容词 a.

1.（到期）未付的、未做的、未还的；过期的
2. 早该发生的；早应完成的

Sample:

1.Your books are two days overdue.
您的书过期两天了。
2.Your rent is ten days overdue.
你该交房费的日期已经过了十天了。
3.The train is two hours overdue.
火车晚点两个小时。
4.Payment is now four days overdue.
付款期已超过四天了。
5.The aircraft is overdue by several hours.
飞机晚点几小时。

 

expire

不及物动词 vi.

Sample:

1.满期 ,届期 ;(期限 )终止
My lease will expire on September 30th of this year.
我的租约今年九月三十日到期。

2.呼气 ,吐气

3.【书】断气 ,死亡
The old lady expired within the hour.
那个老太太不到一小时就死了。

及物动词 vt.

Sample:

1.呼出 (空气 )
We expire used air from our lungs.

overdue与expired

overdue:可能是要付的延期的费用，如去图书馆借书，需要付的overdue payment
expired:已经过期的付款 

 

 

hardly几乎不 ,具有否定意义

nearly 和 almost，表几乎

nearly 和 almost 的区别
1）almost 和 nearly 在用法上既有相同之处，也有不同点。在单纯表示"时间、程度、进度"时，almost=nearly。例如：
　The building is almost completed.
　The building is nearly completed.
　第一句比第二句更接近于完成。

2）在具体数字前面常用nearly。例如：
　The river is nearly 100 metres wide.
　这条河有近百米宽。
　The old man is nearly 80 years old.
　那位老人年近八十岁。

3）almost 可与no, nothing, none, never等连用，此时不能用 nearly 代替。例如：

　Almost no one believed him.  几乎无人相信他的话。
　There's almost none left. 几乎一个没剩。
　What he said was almost nothing worth listening to.  他所说的话几乎没有价值。

4) almost不可被not修饰，如不说not almost或almost not。表示“几乎不”，可以用hardly。
    He could hardly speak English.他几乎不会说英语。
