Mistakes to Avoid

1. EX. Some Canadian people hate winter. 

   no people. just add s after Canadian, like Canadians

   Almost country words like that. For example,  Brazillians, Americans,  Muslims.....

2.  Ex. Most of people have cell phones these days.

      Do not use 'of' between  most and people.  

same like some people, not some of people.

but 'a lot people', we need 'of', like a lot of people. 

3. Ex. Every people should get an education. 

we did not say Every people. just say everybody, everyone

All person never get together, just say All people.

people follow single words

 Everybody follow s-words

4. All-nighter  -------noun 

staying awake for over 24 hours. no sleep.

ex. I pulled an all-nighter.  I hate all-nighters 

5. All talk ------ adjective 

Talk about doing something but never do it.  not going to do it.

ex. You are all talk. you will never punch your boss. 

6. All for it 

Strongly agree with action. 

 

I am all for ordering pizza. 

7. All in all  

everything considered/ on the whole 

ex. all in all, we had an amazing time. 

8. all the way 

a. doing something completely (100% to do)

I will support you all the way.    

b. sexual  meaning sex 

ex. they went all the way.  == they had sex. 

9. know-it-all 

talk about information as though they are an expert. not a good expression. 

类似于。 你咋啥都知道呢。

ex. David is such a know-it-all.  negative expression.  

 10.  for all I know. 

I really do not know./ limited details. 

ex. He wears a ring. He is married for all I know. 

11. For all I care 

not worried by something. Do not care. means I don't care. 

 You can stay out until 2 AM for all I care. 

12. Not all there 

not fully functioning. / crazy  like somebody crazy

. Mr. J is not all there. He dresses his cat in clothes.  

13. all along  

Since the beginning .  since whole time, begin beginning .

Zark loved lucy all along. 

14. once and for all 

for the last time.  

ex. Bolt wanted to prove he was the fastest runner once and for all.  (for last time)

15. all over 

a. Done  /  no other outcome possible  

ex. it is all over. 

b. In many places  

ex. Her clothes were all over the floor.
