history of the Chinese nation, its glorious and magnificent culture and its

tremendous contribution to human progress; more importantly, as China’s overall

strength has grown in the course of reform and opening-up over the past three

Adults would eat delicious mooncakes and sip a good cup of steaming hot Chinese

tea, while children play with their rabbit lanterns nearby. The Mid-Autumn Festival

probably began as a harvest-celebrating festival. It was later given(赋予) a

mythological(神话的) flavor(风味,香料) with legend of Chang-E, the beautiful fairy

lady in the moon. In China, the customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival in different

places may vary, but various forms of celebration all embody people’s infinite love

for life and visions of the beautiful future.

the Chinese character “jiu” which indicates “long”, and is the biggest single

digit(数字), therefore it indicates longevity(n. There have been lots of poems

and works celebrating the Chong Yang Festival and praising chrysanthemums since

ancient times. People also believe that climbing mountains can expel bad luck, and

indicates “ climbing to a higher position” and “longevity”. China designates(指

命名为) the ninth day of the ninth lunar month as Seniors’ Day, which

combines tradition with modern times subtly to turn it into a festival for respecting,

caring about, loving and helping the elderly people.

some quaint(古雅的) cultural calligraphic works. Sitting rooms, studies rooms and

bedrooms can also be decorated with calligraphic works. The Chinese characters

are written on Xuan paper which absorbs ink well and then are mounted(装裱) to

hang on the wall. The calligraphic works are mostly a poem or a motto(格言) that

the host of the room likes very much; if it is written by the host himself, it will

demonstrate more his aspiration and interest(志趣) as well as his talent.
The Duanwu Festival, also called the Dragon Boat Festival, is an ancient

traditional festival in China, celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar calendar

month. For thousands of years, various celebrations are held all over the country.

Eating zongzi and racing the dragon boats are the most pertinent(切题的) ones,

which are said to(据说) be in memory of(纪念commemorate) Qu Yuan, a great

ancient poet. In some places, people spread realgar wine(雄黄酒) on the children in

the hope of protecting them from the evil spirits(邪灵). Many people consider May

as an especially dangerous time for diseases in a year, and therefore they hang

moxa and calamus(艾叶和菖蒲) and things like that(等) around the doors in order to

ward off(避开) evil and diseases and pray for good luck.
The Laba Festival is celebrated on the 8th day of the last lunar month, meaning

the start of the celebrations of the traditional Chinese New Year. Since ancient

times it has been a festival of  offering sacrifices to the ancestors and gods and

praying for the harvest and good luck. Customs on this day differ from place to

place within the country, but having Laba porridge(粥) is the general one. The

ingredients(原料) of Laba porridge vary due to the different local produces, but

mostly there are eight--sometimes even more--ingredients mixed in it. After the

porridge is cooked, it should first be used to worship the gods and ancestors, then

be sent to relatives and friends for thanks, and finally be eaten by the family

members. It is even spread(涂) on the fruit trees to pray for harvest in some places.

Besides, people also have the customs of pickling(泡) the garlic, making Laba

noodles and so on.

the world. The Great Wall that we refer to today is mainly the one built in Ming

Dynasty, about 8851.8 kilometers in length. It embodies the perseverance and great

wisdom of ancient Chinese people, reflects the outstanding achievement of our

ancient project engineering and shows the profound history of Chinese nation. It

was listed as the world cultural heritage in December 1987. The people of all times

and all countries who have visited the Great Wall marvel at(惊叹于) its magnificence,

grand scale and difficult engineering. The Great Wall is the pride of the Chinese

people as well as the people all over the world.

the Qixi Festival, among which the most typical one is worshiping the Vega(织女星)

to pray for a pair of nimble(灵巧的) hands and a better craftsmanship(技术) as Zhinv

in the legend. Each custom embodies people’s pursuit of and yearning for(向往)

the ideal love and happy life.

(State Administration of TCM and

Pharmacology)

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an integral part(不可分割的一部分) of

Chinese culture. It has made great contributions to the prosperity of China. Today

both TCM and western medicine are being used in providing medical and healthy

services in China. TCM, with its unique diagnostic methods, systematic approach,

abundant historical literature and materials, has attracted a lot of attention from

the international community. In China, TCM is under the administration of State

Administration of TCM and Pharmacology. National strategies, laws and regulations

governing TCM are now in place to guide and promote the research and

development in this promising industry. TCM is defined as a medical science

governing the theory and practice of traditional Chinese medicine. It includes

Qigong.
2.为振兴华夏做出了巨大的贡献:可译为has made great contributions to the

great contributions。

used。

literature and materials。

译为new industry或emerging industry。

(Belgium-Chinese Economic and

Commercial Council)

China-EU economic and trade cooperation(中欧经济贸易合作) has yielded

heartening(鼓舞人心的) fruits. The EU has now become an important economic

and trade partner of China, working as the largest technology supplier, the third

largest trading partner and the fifth largest actual investor in China. Bilateral(双边

的) trade reached 76.6 billion dollars in 2001, achieving an 11% increase compared

to the previous year. In particular(特别是), China's imports from the EU grew by

15.8%. I highly appreciate the efforts by the Europe-China Business Association and

the Belgium-Chinese Economic and Commercial Council for developing China-EU

ties. China-EU trade and economic cooperation is endowed with(赋予) a promising

future. The two economies are strongly complementary to each other and hence(

此后) enjoy huge potential for cooperation in trade, investment, science and

technology areas.

the fifth largest。

investor。
  4.增长了15.8%:可译为grew by 15.8%,还可译为increased by 15.8%。

6.具有很强的互补性:可译为are strongly complementary to each other,

in “smaller” cities. With the development of the Internet, an inevitable trend

among these consumers is they are much more dependent on information from

social networking services. Many of the website's customers are “grouped” by

【参考译文】Endowment(聘金,捐赠) may be part of Chinese tradition, but the

standards have become so high in recent years that a majority of families are

finding it difficult to meet them. The high endowment amounts often rob grooms'(

married couples are forced to host extravagant(奢侈的) wedding ceremonies and, in

the process, run up(积欠) huge debts that could turn their married life sour, at least

in the initial phase. Considering the frugal(节俭的) wedding of many parents, simple

范文:
Nobody could have failed to notice the fact that reading classics plays an

important and beneficial role in the personal development and growth of people.

Personally, ever since my childhood, nothing has been more attractive than reading

the classic masterpieces. Taking a look around, we can find classics from which

people hugely benefit too numerous to list: The Dream in the Red Chamber, The

Legend of Three Kingdoms, Bible and the like.
However, it is widely acknowledged that an increasing number of people are

losing interest in classics. A number of factors could account for the change, but

the following are the most critical ones. On one hand, practical reading has

occupied the market and students’ spare time in such a material possession

oriented society. On the other hand, the boom of internet industry gives rise to the

change in students’ reading habit which consequently, in comparison, makes

reading classics time-consuming and less entertaining.
In view of the seriousness of this problem, effective measures must be taken

before things get worse. First, it is essential that college rules and regulations be

worked out and enforced to encourage college students to read classical works and

start classics-reading campaigns in campus. Secondly, college students should

enhance their awareness of the importance of absorbing the essence of the classics

in which our ancestors left their wisdoms and experiences. With proper rules and an

alert public, it will only be a matter of time to see this problem become a thing of

the past in the near future.
