Introduction

Sketchbook 1 focuses on the empathise phase, introduced in “Kōwae 02 and Kōwae 03 - Empathise Part 1 and 2. Below are three questions for each week. Make sure to read the  whole document).

Entry 1: Kōwae 02 – Empathise Part 1

This week’s entry focuses on the empathise phase introduced in Kōwae 2 – Empathise Part 1. Provided below are three questions for this entry.

Questions

For your project, what are you going to put into your Information Gathering Plan?

(i)  What information are you trying to gather?

(ii) The source of that information

(iii)The techniques you’ll use to gather it (iv)The order in which you’ll gather it

2. How will you gather the information you need, and why are you gathering it?

(i)        What type of information are you looking for (primary and/or secondary)

(ii)       Where will you get that information from (Google search; news sources; Google Scholar; set up a survey and/or observations, etc.)

3. What are the characteristics of your stakeholders?

(i)  What is their role?

(ii) Key use cases (usage scenarios)

(iii) Motivation (iv) Attitudes    (v) Behaviours

Entry 2: Kōwae 03 - Empathise Part 2

This week’s entry focuses on the empathise phase introduced in Kōwae 3 – Empathise Part 2. Provided below are three questions for this entry.

Things to consider

1. Think about the information gathering plan you created.

(i)        What is the research objective of your information gathering (e.g.,

exploratory vs confirmatory –see section 5.1 in Stickdornet al. (2018))?

You can update your information gathering plan to align with your research objective.

2. After you have gathered information (interviews, research, etc.), the next step is to develop insights via modelling.

(i)        Which model(s) do you plan to use? (ii)       Why did you choose them?

3. In project-based workshop 2, you will work with your peer and develop an empathy map.

(i)        Identify WHO and Task Goals (the first two steps of an empathy map) for your empathy map.

Creating and Submitting your Sketchbook

You can use any tool you wish (e.g., pen and paper, Miro, PowerPoint, etc) to create your sketchbooks.

You must submit all the sketchbook entries in a single file. For example, using

PowerPoint, each slide must represent one sketchbook entry. If you use pen and paper, take a photo of your sketchbook and copy it to a Word document or PowerPoint. If you are using

Miro, export your sketchbook as a PDF.Here is how to export Miro Boards
