How to sort by a form that is not displayed in the document in MicroStrategy Desktop 8.x

How to sort by a form that is not displayed in the report in MicroStrategy Desktop 8.x

There are two methods to sort an attribute form. One is to sort at the report level using "Advance Sort" and the other is to sort at the attribute level by setting the default sort of the form.

Regardless of which level the sort is set, the form must be accessible from the "Displayed forms" and/or "Report objects form." Making the form accessible from the "Displayed form" will automatically make it accessible from the "Report objects form" as well as make the form visible on the report itself. Thus, to make the form "sort capable," the form must be accessible from the "Report objects form" regardless if it is visible or not on the grid. MicroStrategy OLAP Services is required to have the form in the "Report objects forms" only.

For an available form to be a displayed form and/or a report objects form at the report level, users must open the "Attribute Display" window.

To open the "Attribute Display" window, right-click on the attribute and select "More" from the sub-menu "Attribute Forms," as shown below:
Once the menu item "More" has been selected, the "Attribute Display" window will appear, as shown below:

At this point, users will have the option to make an available form be a displayed form and/or a report objects form.
Once a form has been selected as a displayed form and/or a report objects form, a user must then specify the settings to sort an attribute in the "Advance Sorting" which is located under the "Data" menu, as shown below:

For an available form to be a displayed form and/or a browse form at the attribute level, users must edit the attribute using the attribute editor.

Open the attribute editor and select the 'Display' tab, as shown below:
Once in the "Display" tab, users will have the option to make an available form be a displayed form and/or a browse form. Once a form has been selected as a displayed form and/or a browse form, then users must specify the settings to sort an attribute in the in form editor, as shown below:
Once the default sort for an attribute form is set, the form must then be added, at the report level, to the displayed form and/or a report objects form, which can be configured in the "Attribute Display" window. To open the "Attribute Display" window, right-click on the attribute and select "More" from the sub-menu "Attribute Forms," as shown below:

Note: After modifying an attribute, an update of the schema is necessary for changes to take effect.
Once the menu item "More" has been selected, the "Attribute Display" window will appear, as shown below:
