Hello everyone,
Today I am so happy to share with you my favorite Chinese myth: Chang'e flies to the moon.
Long, long ago, there were ten suns in the sky. It was too hot. People were dying. A hero named Houyi used his bow and arrows to shoot down nine suns. He saved everyone. The queen of heaven gave Houyi a bottle of magic water. It would make him live forever and go to heaven. But Houyi didn't want to go. He wanted to stay with his pretty wife, Chang'e. So he didn't drink the magic water. He asked his wife to keep it safe.
One day, when Houyi was away, a bad man went to Houyi's house to get the magic water. Chang'e knew she couldn't win against the man, so she drank the magic water herself. She became so light that she floated all the way to the moon.
And that's where she lives now, in a beautiful palace with a jade rabbit. Every year, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, we remember Chang'e by looking at the full moon and sharing mooncakes.
Thank you for listening to my favorite Chinese myth!
