《脆弱的力量》是我最早看的也是最喜欢的TED演讲之一，这里传递了一个很重要的理念：人人都有脆弱，我们只有坦诚地面对脆弱并接受脆弱，才能真正善待自己，善待爱我们的人，才能换来真正的自我。

当然演讲者布琳.布朗也是一位非常美丽知性的阿姨，听她演讲，优雅而略带磁性的声音很富感染力：

I’m really struggling with how to write about you on the little flier.

What’s the struggle?

 

And I was like, “Okay.”

But the thing I liked about your talk

And of course, the academic, insecure part of me, was like “…”

----insecure [.ɪnsɪ'kjʊə(r)] 注意重音位置

You’re going to call me a what?

--- a what(回应对方说的：call you a storyteller)

 

Why not magic pixie?

----magic pixie(小精灵，仙子) 魔法小精灵(A pixie is an imaginary little creature like a fairy. Pixies have pointed ears(尖耳) and wear pointed hats(尖帽).)

 

I tried to call deep on my courage.

--- call deep on my courage 鼓起勇气

 

I’m a qualitative researcher.

----从事定性研究的研究员

---- qualitative([ˈkwɒlɪtətɪv]) 质量的，定性的，性质上的

 

And maybe stories are just data with a soul.

---- data with a soul 有灵魂的数据

 

Why don’t just say I’m a researcher-storyteller.

---- researcher-storyteller. 讲故事的人兼研究员

 

We’re talking about expanding perception –

--- expanding perception 拓展认知

 

About a piece of my research

---- a piece of

When I was a young researcher, doctoral student.

---- doctoral([ˈdɒktərəl]) student 博士生

 

And I thought he was just sweet-talking me.

---- sweek-talk  对...甜言蜜语，哄骗 (另一个词： sleep talking：梦呓，梦语症)

---- 我想他只是在哄我们这些小孩吧

 

I have a bachelor’s in social work, …

---- bachelor’s = bachelor’s degree

---- have bachelor’s in...

 

who kind of believed in the “ Life’s messy, love it.”

----他们大抵相信，生活是一团麻，接收它

 

And I more of the “Life is messy, clean it up, organize it and put it into a bento box.”

And so to think that I had found my way.

---- 我觉得我领悟到了关键

 

One of the big saying in social work is “Lean into the discomfort of the work.”

And I’m like, you know, knock discomfort upside the head and move it over, and get all A‘s.

That was my mantra.

And so I thought, you know what, this is the career for me.

I want to hack into these things.

It’s what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.

Who work in social justice and mental health and abuse and neglect,

Neurobiologically, that’s how we’re wired.

Where you get an evaluation from your boss

 

And one thing – “an opportunity for growth.”

Well, apparently this the way my work went as well.

When you ask people about belongings, they’ll tell you their most excruciating experiences of being excluded.

So very quickly – really about six weeks into this research –

I ran into this unnamed thing that absolutely unraveled connection in a way that I didn’t understand or had never seen.

And so I pulled back out of the research.

I need to figure out what this is, and it turned out to be shame.

As the fear of disconnection.

It’s universal, we all have it.

The only people who don’t experience shame have no capacity for human empathy or connection.

and the less you talk about it the more you have it
