TED地道用语学习 - ＜脆弱的力量＞ - 2

由于有些句子要听好几遍才能听写出来，还有些句子听再多遍也无法听清其中的一些词或短语(超过十遍就会看字幕)，而且来回在iPad调进度条非常耗时，所以一般五分钟的内容要听一个小时以上，因此一个视频要学好几天才能完毕。

今天学习的这个时间段的内容，发现无巧不成书，就是布琳说她对办公用品有点痴迷("I have a slight office supply addiction")，这跟我很类似，并且她还有一支Sharpie笔，而我在做听写笔记时恰好用的就是一支Sharpie笔!!!见文后图:

In order for connection to happen, we have to allow us to be seen

I’m going in, I’m going to figure this stuff out

I’m going to totally deconstruct shame, and I’m going to outsmart it.

As you know, it’s not going to turn out

So, I could tell you a lot about shame, but I’d have to borrow everyone else’s time.

But here’s what I can tell you that it boils down to –

In the decade of doing this research…

 

My one year turned into six years…

Hundreds of long interviews, focus groups

 

At one point, people were sending me journal pages.

Thousands of pieces of data in six years.

 

and I kind of got a handle on it

If I roughly took the people I interviewed…

 

Who really have a sense of worthiness…

----真正具有自由价值感的人

 

That’s what this comes down to, a sense of worthiness

----come down to 归根到底，可归结为

----说到底就是自我价值感

 

They have a strong sense of love and belonging…

----他们勇于去爱，并拥有强烈的归属感

 

and folks who struggle for it

---- struggle for 为…奋斗，为…争斗

----另一部分则是为之苦苦挣扎的人

 

And folks who are always wondering if they are good enough.

 

There was only one variable that separated the people who have a strong sense of love and belonging and the people really struggle for it,

----区分那些敢去去爱并拥有强烈归属感的人和那些苦苦挣扎的人唯一因素是…

 

and that was, the people who have the people who have a strong sense of love and belongings believe they’re worthy of love and belonging.

They believe they’re worthy.

----那就是，那些敢于去爱并拥有强烈归属感的人相信他们值得被爱，值得享有归属感.

 

The one things that keeps us out of connection is our fear that we’re not worthy of connection.

----那些阻碍人与人之间关系的, 是我们对于不值得享受这种关系的恐惧。

 

was something that, personally and professionally

I felt I need to

 

where I saw worthiness, where I saw people living that way

What do these people have in common?

I have a slight office supply addiction, but that’s another talk.

So I had a manila folder, and I had a Sharpie.

and I was like, what am I going to call this research

 

and the first words come to my mind were whole-hearted

---- whole-hearted 全心全意

 

These are whole-hearted people, living from this deep sense of worthiness.

----这是一群全心全意的靠着一种强烈的自我价值感在生活的人

 

So I worte at the top of the manila folder

 

In a four-day very intensive data analysis

 

Where I went back, pulled these interviews, pulled the stories, pulled the incidents.

----incident 发生的事情(尤指不寻常的或讨厌的)，严重事故，暴力事件；(两国间的)摩擦，冲突

----我从头找出那些采访，找出其中的故事和事件。

 

What’s the theme?

---- theme 主题，主旋律

 

My husband left town with kids, because I always go into this Jackson Pollock crazy thing, and in my research mode.

What they had in common was a sense of courage

 

And I want to separate courage and bravery for you for a minute.
