Every day we read the news in newspapers, watch the news on television, listen to the news on the radio, and we also get a lot of news on the internet nowadays, too.

Reporters report or cover the news so that the news stations can broadcast it. We can follow certain news stories if they interest us.

One of my friends is a journalist, and he works forthe local newspaper. His main job was the
paper’ s political correspondent.

Other words we can use to talk about the news in English,or people who work in the industry, are reporters, columnists, news-hounds, and paparazzi.

3.How to read news headlines andimprove your English

3.1.Scan

  • You can scan the headlinesin English every day on afavorite app or website.
  • For 3-5 minutes, read thetitles of the top stories.
  • lf there are unfamiliar words,note them and then look themup when you have the time.

  • Then read it when you have more time.

3.4.Make predictions

  • Before you read the wholestory, predict what some of thedetails will be.
  • You can say or write your predictions.
  • As you read, you’ll be focusedon whether your predictions were right or wrong.

4.Summarize

  • Learn to summarize what you read.
  • lt’s a very good practice to think about what you just read andsummarize the main points.
  • You can say or write a fewsentences to capture the basic story or argument.

5.Practice

  • Use the headlines to practice sentence structure and grammar forms.

  • Take a headline and rewrite it as a full sentence.(新闻标题多省略冠词等非实词, 语法上不一定完整)
