Robust hand gesture recognition for robotic hand control
This book focuses on light invariant bare hand gesture recognition while there is no restriction on the types of gestures. Observations and results have confirmed that this research work can be used to remotely control a robotic hand using hand gestures. The system developed here is also able to recognize hand gestures in different lighting conditions. The pre-processing is performed by developing an image-cropping algorithm that ensures only the area of interest is included in the segmented image. The segmented image is compared with a predefined gesture set which must be installed in the recognition system. These images are stored and feature vectors are extracted from them. These feature vectors are subsequently presented using an orientation histogram, which provides a view of the edges in the form of frequency. Thereby, if the same gesture is shown twice in different lighting intensities, both repetitions will map to the same gesture in the stored data. The mapping of the segmented image's orientation histogram is firstly done using the Euclidian distance method. Secondly, the supervised neural network is trained for the same, producing better recognition results. An approach to controlling electro-mechanical robotic hands using dynamic hand gestures is also presented using a robot simulator. Such robotic hands have applications in commercial, military or emergency operations where human life cannot be risked. For such applications, an artificial robotic hand is required to perform real-time operations. This robotic hand should be able to move its fingers in the same manner as a human hand. For this purpose, hand geometry parameters are obtained using a webcam and also using KINECT. The parameter detection is direction invariant in both methods. Once the hand parameters are obtained, the fingers? angle information is obtained by performing a geometrical analysis. An artificial neural network is also implemented to calculate the angles. These two methods can be used with only one hand, either right or left. A separate method that is applicable to both hands simultaneously is also developed and fingers angles are calculated. ADVANCES IN SIGNAL PROCESSING AND INTELLIGENT RECOGNITION SYSTEMS : 4th
This edited volume contains a selection of refereed and revised papers originally
presented at the 4th International Symposium on Signal Processing and Intelligent
Recognition Systems (SIRS 2018). The symposium was held at the PES Institute of
Technology (South Campus), Bangalore, India, during September 19–22, 2018. SIRS
2018 was co-located with the International Conference on Applied soft computing and
Communication Networks (ACN 2018). The symposium provided a forum for the
sharing, exchange, presentation, and discussion of original research results in both
methodological issues and different application areas of signal processing, computer
vision, and pattern recognition.
In response to the call for papers, 92 papers were submitted for presentation and
inclusion in the proceedings. The papers were evaluated and ranked on the basis
of their significance, novelty, and technical quality. A double-blind review process was
conducted to ensure that the author names and affiliations were unknown to the TPC.
Each paper was reviewed by the members of the Program Committee. The authors
were asked to address each and every comment made by the referees for improving the
quality of their papers. The technical program of SIRS 2018 consisted of 28 regular
papers and 11 short papers (acceptance rate of 42.4%).
This symposium would not have been possible without the efforts of many people.
First of all, we are very grateful to all authors who contributed their research work and
shared their knowledge with the scientific community. We would like to express our
gratitude to the Program Committee and external reviewers, who worked very hard in

Lithography [semiconductor mfg]
Lithography, the fundamental fabrication process of semiconductor devices, is playing
a critical role in micro- and nano-fabrications and the revolution in high density integrated
circuits. Traditional optical lithography (photolithography) including contact and project
photolithography has contributed significantly to the semiconductor device advancements.
As the resolution requirement increases for fabrication of finer and smaller components and
devices, the technological dependence on photolithography becomes a serious problem
since the photolithography resolution is restricted by the diffraction limitation of optics.
Reducing the light wavelength from blue to near ultraviolet (UV) and to deep UV is
expected to improve the photolithography resolution, but it is far not enough to catch up
with the pace in resolution demand in integrated circuit fabrication.
To overcome the limitation of photolithography, several advanced lithography
techniques have emerged including maskless laser direct write lithography to eliminate the
needs of photo masks, gray-scale lithography to increase the aspect ratio of the lithographic
features, immersion lithography to increase the numerical aperture of the focusing optics
and thus the resolution, and lithographic techniques based on further reducing wavelengths
for better resolution such as extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography and X-ray lithography.
The uses of particle waves like electrons and ion beams have resulted in high resolution
electron beam (E-beam) lithography and ion beam lithography. Besides these wave and
beam based lithographic techniques, there are also direct contact lithography such as soft
lithography using soft molding and nanoimprint lithography with extremely high
resolution. The plasmonic lithography is now in the horizon.
This book is the result of inspirations and contributions from many researchers
worldwide. Although the inclusion of the book chapters may not be a complete
representation of all lithographic arts, it does represent a good collection of contributions in
this field. We hope readers will enjoy reading the book as much as we have enjoyed
bringing the book together. We would like to thank all contributors and authors of book
chapters who entrusted us with their best work. We also acknowledge the great effort of

Each lithographic technique has its advantages and limitations. The conventional
photolithography is not discussed here due to its technological maturity. This book begins
with maskless, gray-scale, and immersion lithography since they are most close to the
conventional photolithography in terms of resolution. Laser nonlinear lithography with
capability of non-flat surface fabrication and character projection lithography are also
included in this chapter. Further chapters present discussion on objective lens, resist
materials and processing, and optical proximity correction.
Principles of Lithography, Third Edition (SPIE Press Monograph, Vol. PM198)
The publication of Principles of Lithography, Third Edition just five years after the previous edition is evidence of the quickly changing and exciting nature of lithography as applied to the production of integrated circuits and other micro- and nanoscale devices. This text is intended to serve as an introduction to the science of microlithography, but also covers several subjects in depth, making it useful to the experienced lithographer as well. Topics directly related to manufacturing tools are addressed, including overlay, the stages of exposure, tools, and light sources. This updated edition reflects recent advances in technology, including the shift of immersion lithography from development into volume manufacturing, and the movement of EUV lithography from the lab to development pilot lines. New references and homework problems are included. It is expected that the reader of this book will have a foundation in basic physics and chemistry. No topics will require knowledge of mathematics beyond elementary calculus.
Coaxial Lithography
This thesis focuses on the electrochemical synthesis of multi-segmented nanowires. In contrast to previous work, which was largely limited to one-dimensional modifications, Tuncay Ozel presents a technique, termed coaxial Lithography (COAL), which allows for the synthesis of coaxial nanowires in a parallel fashion with sub-10 nanometer resolution in both the axial and radial dimensions. This work has significantly expanded current synthetic capabilities with respect to materials generality and the ability to tailor two-dimensional growth in the formation of core-shell structures. These developments have enabled fundamental and applied studies which were not previously possible. The COAL technique will increase the capabilities of many researchers who are interested in studying light-matter interactions, nanoparticle assembly, solution-dispersible nanoparticles and labels, semiconductor device physics and nanowire biomimetic probe preparation. The methodology and results presented in this thesis appeal to researchers in nanomaterial synthesis, plasmonics, biology, photovoltaics, and photocatalysis.

This book is designed to help students and professionals
who use mathematics in their daily routine learn
Mathematica®, a computer system designed to perform
complex mathematical calculations. My approach is
simple: learn by example. Along with easy to read
descriptions of the most widely used commands, I have
included a collection of over 750 examples and solved
problems, each specifically designed to illustrate an
important feature of the Mathematica software.
No attempt has been made to discuss all the
capabilities of Mathematica. As this is a book designed
for first-time users at the undergraduate level, I have
included those commands and options that are most
commonly used in algebra, trigonometry, calculus,
differential equations, and linear algebra. Most examples
and solved problems are short and to the point.
Comments have been included, where appropriate, to
clarify what might be confusing to the reader. The reader
is encouraged not only to replicate the output shown in
the text, but to make modifications and investigate the
resulting effect upon the output. I have found this to be
the most effective way to learn the syntax and
capabilities of this truly unique program.
Over the years Mathematica has undergone a
significant number of changes. This third edition
incorporates all the changes in the command
descriptions, examples, and solved problems. In addition,
a comprehensive list of commands used in the book
together with their descriptions is conveniently located in
the appendix.
The first three chapters serve as an introduction to the
syntax and style of Mathematica. The structure of the
remainder of the book is such that the reader need only
be concerned with those chapters of interest to him or
her. If, on occasion, a command is encountered that has
been discussed in a previous chapter, the index may be
used to conveniently locate the command’s description.
Without a doubt you will be impressed with
Mathematica’s capabilities. It is my sincere hope that
you will use the power built into this software to
investigate the wonders of mathematics in a way that
would have been impossible just a few years ago.
Natural Language Processing with PyTorch_ Build Intelligent Language App
This book aims to bring newcomers to natural language processing (NLP) and deep learning to a
tasting table covering important topics in both areas. Both of these subject areas are growing
exponentially. As it introduces both deep learning and NLP with an emphasis on
implementation, this book occupies an important middle ground. While writing the book, we
had to make difficult, and sometimes uncomfortable, choices on what material to leave out. For
a beginner reader, we hope the book will provide a strong foundation in the basics and a glimpse
of what is possible. Machine learning, and deep learning in particular, is an experiential
discipline, as opposed to an intellectual science. The generous endtoend
code examples in each
chapter invite you to partake in that experience.
When we began working on the book, we started with PyTorch 0.2. The examples were revised
with each PyTorch update from 0.2 to 0.4.
P
yTorch 1.0 is due to release around when this book
comes out. The code examples in the book are PyTorch 0.4–compliant and should work as they
are with the upcoming PyTorch 1.0 release.
A note regarding the style of the book. We have intentionally avoided mathematics in most
places, not because deep learning math is particularly difficult (it is not), but because it is a
distraction in many situations from the main goal of this book—to empower the beginner
learner. Likewise, in many cases, both in code and text, we have favored exposition over
succinctness. Advanced readers and experienced programmers will likely see ways to tighten up
the code and so on, but our choice was to be as explicit as possible so as to reach the broadest of
the audience that we want to reach.
Autonomous Control for a Reliable Internet of Services
This open access book was prepared as a Final Publication of the COST Action IC1304 “Autonomous Control for a Reliable Internet of Services (ACROSS)”. The book contains 14 chapters and constitutes a show-case of the main outcome of the Action in line with its scientific goals. It will serve as a valuable reference for undergraduate and post-graduate students, educators, faculty members, researchers, engineers, and research strategists working in this field.
The explosive growth of the Internet has fundamentally changed the global society. The emergence of concepts like SOA, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, NaaS, and Cloud Computing in general has catalyzed the migration from the information-oriented Internet into an Internet of Services (IoS). This has opened up virtually unbounded possibilities for the creation of new and innovative services that facilitate business processes and improve the quality of life. However, this also calls for new approaches to ensuring the quality and reliability of these services. The objective of this book is, by applying a systematic approach, to assess the state-of-the-art and consolidate the main research results achieved in this area.
