1. Short and Long Sentence
- Short sentences are often used to make emphatic or important statements. Hence, short sentences are suitable for the presentation of important facts and ideas.
- Long sentences express complex ideas clearly and accurately. So, the long sentences are applied in the explanation of views and theories or the description of things with many details.
2. Loose, periodic and balanced sentences
- A loose sentence is easier, simple and more natural and direct, and it puts the main idea before all supplementary information.
- Periodic sentences are more complex, emphatic, formal or literary
- Balance sentences are impressive.
3. Effective sentence
- A simple complete though.
- No parallel in form.
- pronoun with ambiguous reference.
- dangling modifier.
- misplaced modifier.
- confusing changes in person, number, mood and voice.
4. Conciseness
If the idea is fully expressed, the less words are used, the better.
5. Variety
Variety is essential to good writing.
