This little gizmo could be the key to getting some good pictures out of a cell phone.
My Samsung Galaxy is a good multi-purpose device, but like most things that try to do a lot of different things, it kind of does them less well than a dedicated instrument could do. Much like a multi-tool, where the knife is OK but not as good as a stand alone knife, or pliers, or file.
Similarly, I've found the shutter on my Galaxy phone to be one of the weakest links to its camera feature.
The Xenvo allows you to position the phone any way you like, especially not in your hands, such as on a tripod using an adapter, and actuate the shutter when you want to, rather than when you finally hit the phone's screen shutter and it decides you hit it right.
Another thing wrong with having a virtual shutter button is that invariably you move the phone a little in the act of pressing the"button".
The Shutterbug solves both problems elegantly and simply.
Pairing with the phone was effortless, a dialog came up asking if I wanted to add Shutterbug to my trusted devices in order to allow it to keep the phone on, and yes I did, then that was it. Good to go.
There's a tiny on-off power switch on the side, and shutter actuation is positive and fast. A lanyard and small carabiner are supplied, as is a replacement battery- the Xenvo comes with a battery pre-installed, too.
The Shutterbug works natively with all iPhones and all Samsung Galaxy phones, and there's a downloadable app for many other phones.
A very pleasant surprise to see how simple it was to set up and how well it works. Wish I'd gotten one of these a long time ago.
