随着过肩经济的蓬勃发展，郭明生活水平的不断提高，国民消费水平的提高带动了餐饮行业的发展。近几年大中小城市中餐饮行业的发展可谓是蒸蒸日上，传统的手工作业方式已经不能满足餐饮经营者的需求了。人工记账、核算、查询等工作既费时、费力、又容易出错。通过在计算机中运行餐饮管理系统，以上问题迎刃而解。原来需要大量时间和人力的工作，现在只需几人就可轻松解决。既提高了工作的效率，又节省了大量人力资源，为广大餐饮行业的经营者带来了更多的利益，同时也方便了广大的消费者。
餐厅的内部服务项目众多，既需要完成前台的服务工作，还需要完成后台的管理工作，还需要完成财政收支的汇总与查询，如果没有一套可靠的餐饮管理系统，单凭手工操作，不仅效率低，而且会极大地影响到餐厅的服务质量。从分析餐厅运营的基本情况入手，进行系统的可行性分析，来了解企业的管理特点和存在的问题，在此基础上，进行详细分析，得出系统功能结构图，再通过系统实现等环节，最终开发出能够满足餐饮业务需要的餐饮管理信息系统。如果借助计算机来管理，就可以轻松的解决处理这些问题。一个餐饮管理信息系统应该包括基本的餐厅的服务管理、管理人员信息的维护等，以及与之相应的操作。所以整个餐饮管理信息系统分为两个大部分，即后台的数据管理维护和前台的操作。后台数据库的管理能保证系统各项功能正常运行，前台操作能提供给客户尽可能方便快捷的服务。
