During the installation process, Symantec Installation Manager (SIM) displays an Install Readiness Check page. On this page, Symantec Installation Manager verifies many of the following system requirements.

Installation and Upgrade

Prerequisites
    • .NET 3.5 Framework  (note that .NET 2.0 SP2 and.NET 3.5 SP1 are not supported)
    • Internet Explorer 7 (x86 only) 
    • SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2005 Express
    • Windows 2003 Server
Upgrade prerequisites
    • Notification Server 6.0 R8
    • Altiris Agent 6.0 SP3 or later

The following lists describe the Windows platforms supported:

Windows Client—Managed Platforms:
    • XP SP1 or later x64/x86
    • 2000 Workstation SP4 + rollups
    • Vista RTM and SP1 (x86 and x64)
Note: Customers wishing to manage NT 4 and below must maintain a 6.x Notification Server and run 6.x solutions.
Windows Server—Managed Platforms:
    • 2000 Server SP4 + rollups
    • Server 2003 (SP1/SP2/R2) x64/x86
    • Server 2008x64/x86
Note: Customers wishing to manage NT 4 and below require they continue to maintain a 6.x Notification Server and run 6.x solutions.
SQL Server Support:
    • SQL Server 2005 SP2 + Standard & Enterprise, x64/x86
    • SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2
Note: A policy displays a warning when the system exceeds the number of supported nodes, or unsupported solutions are run on SQL Express.
Windows OS Platforms—Notification Server Installations:
    • Server 2003 (SP1/SP2/R2) x86
Note: Windows 2008 and Windows Vista are only supported on managed computers. They cannot be used as Notification Server or Task Server computers.
Windows OS Platforms—Site Server Installations:
    • 2000 Server SP4 plus rollups
    • XP (SP2/SP3) x64/x86
    • Server 2003 (SP1/SP2/R2) x64/x86
    • Vista (all versions) (package server only)
    • Windows Server 2008 (package server only)

  • Virtual disk 3: Logs (36 GB minimum disk size)
  • Virtual disk 4: Temp db (36 GB minimum disk size)
The SQL Server database for large environments with managed computers, software, and multiple Solutions can grow to 15 GB.
