Nowadays, body language plays a very important role in the daily life. There are many studies focus on the usage of body language in cross-culture communication. People from different countries can communication with each other by using body language. What’s more body language helps us to express ourselves better. However, the significance of body language in teaching, especially in middle school English teaching has been overlooked. It has been noticed that many teachers in middle school ignore body language. For example, it is not rare to see teachers focus on their books without making any eye contract with their students. As a result, the students may lose interest in what the teachers are focusing on. Some teachers are quite serious without any facial expressions. This leads the students to feel boring about the contents of the class. In some other cases, the teachers just put their hands behind their backs while presenting their class. They give the students an impression of awkwardness and seriousness, thus sometimes the student may not be able to listen to the teacher in a relaxed emotion. There are many examples about teachers’ ignorance of body language. I believe that there is a connection between the use of body language and middle school English teaching. Through this paper I would like to explore the significance of body language in middle school English teaching.
