To Install Cygwin on local disk (C:)
- Go to www.cygwin.com
- Click on Install Cygwin (from left side menu)
- Double-click on "setup-x86.exe”. The x86 version will work fine on a 64-bit computer.
- The window “Do you want to run or save this file” will appear, offering Run, Save, Cancel. Click on Run.
Note: most of the following may be the default selection.
- The window “Cygwin Net Release Setup Program” will appear. Click Next
- The window “Cygwin Setup – Choose Installation” will appear. Select install from Internet. Click Next
- The window “Cygwin Setup – Choose Installation Directory” will appear. Set Root Directory C:\cygwin, Install for all Users. Click Next
- The window “Cygwin Setup – Select Local Package Directory” will appear. Set Local Package Directory C:\Users\[user]\Desktop, where [user] is the username of the logged in user. Click Next
- The window “Cygwin Setup – Select Connection Type” will appear. Select Use Internet Explorer Proxy Settings Click Next
- Select a download site and start the download.
- Eventually this process will get to a window “Cygwin Setup – Select Packages” package selection dialog. Click Next to select defaults
- Click Finish to close the dialog box when the installation finishes
Replace the files in C:\cygwin with the Cygwin files from the Network (this updates the directory to the version we are using.
- Delete all files in the folder c:\cygwin
- Copy Cygwin files from the Network location public:\voss\cygwin
Add the following directories to the system variable path
- c:\cygwin\bin;c:\cygwin\usr\local\bin
- restart the computer to update the system variable path
Update the mount parameters:
- Start Bash – by right click on the batch file in c:\cygwin and select “Run as Administrator”
- At the prompt type: mount --change-cygdrive-prefix /
- Type the following commands to add mount points:
- mount –b –f c:\\cygwin /
- mount –b –f c:\\cygwin\lib /usr/lib
- mount –b –f c:\\cygwin\bin /usr/bin
