1. in hindsight

后见之明，回想

hindsight意为“事后的聪明、事后的觉悟”。

例：

In hindsight, we should have cherished the time we spent with our families during the pandemic.

事后看来，我们应该珍惜疫情期间和家人同居的时光。

2. loose ends

未做完的事情

常用tie up连接，tie up意为“系紧、拉紧”，可以延伸理解为“抓紧做事”，tie up loose ends 就是“做完收尾工作”。

例：

I will tie up all the loose ends in December.

我会在12月份做好一切收尾工作。

3. make up for lost time

弥补失去的时光，尽情享受

尤指为弥补过去未能完成的、进度比预期慢的事情而在现阶段加速或加倍地努力。

例：

I studied non-stop to make up for lost time since I returned to school.

在返校之后，为了弥补失去的时间，我一刻不停地学习。

4. Iearn a lesson

多指从一件失败的事中吸取经验和教训。

例：

Many countries learned a lesson from the pandemic of 2020.

许多国家从2020年的疫情中吸取了教训。

chalk something up to experience

把……当作经验教训；接受失败并从中汲取教训

例：

"So your new job didn't work out very well?" "No, it didn't, but never mind——chalk it up to experience."

5. move on

继续前进

例：

I really haven't enjoyed this year very much, move on 2021.

我真的不是很喜欢今年的生活，向2021年前进吧。

例：

I think the highlight of this year was my trip during summer holiday——it was interesting.

2. look back

回顾、回想

后面常接介词at或on使用。

例：

Looking back at the goals I set at the beginning of the year, I achieved most of them.

回顾我年初立下的目标，我实现了大部分。

3. take a stroll down memory lane

在记忆的小道上漫步，即“追忆往昔”

使用这个短语时多指美好的回忆，stroll也可替换成trip或walk使用。

例：

At the end of the year I always take a trip down memory lane and it's fun to reminisce about the experience of this year.

每年年末，我总是会回忆一下这一年的经历，这很有意思。

4. jog somebody's memory

唤起记忆

jog在这里不是“慢跑”的意思，而是指用胳膊肘轻推的动作，因此可以理解为“点醒某人的一段记忆”。

例：

Maybe this photograph will jog your memory.

也许这张照片能唤起你的记忆。

与其用法相似的表达为refresh someone's memory

使某人想起

例：

She reread diary to refresh her memory.

她重读了日记以唤醒自己的记忆。
