Die 1067 (700 mittelalterlichen) Handschriften der ULBT Innsbruck waren bisher nur unbefriedigend erschlossen gewesen. Daher wurde ein nach den Richtlinien der Kommission für Schrift- und Buchwesen des Mittelalters der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften erstellter Katalog in Angriff genommen, von welchem bisher 6 Bände erschienen sind.

Der vorliegende siebte Band (Cod. 601-700) wurde wie die Bände 3 bis 6 im Rahmen eines vom Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung in Österreich (FWF) getragenen Projekts erstellt (Leitung jeweils Dr. Walter Neuhauser). Auf Grund der Anordnung des Katalogs nach Signaturen bietet auch dieser siebte Band ein formal wie inhaltlich buntes Bild. Gegenüber den früheren Bänden ist der Anteil an neuzeitlichen Handschriften (nach 1500) mit 37 wesentlich stärker als früher, mit 21 auch die Zahl an deutschsprachigen Handschriften, dazu kommen noch 7 italienische und eine französische Handschrift.

Inhaltlich dominieren zwar die theologischen Handschriften (etwas mehr als die Hälfte), doch ist mit 22 der Anteil an historischen Handschriften verhältnismäßig groß.

Hervorzuheben sind vier Codices mit Übersetzungen theologischer Texte in ein frühes Neuhochdeutsch ("gemeines Deutsch") (Cod. 618, 626, 635 und 641). Bei vielen in den Handschriften anonym überlieferten Texten gelang erstmals eine Zuordnung an einen Autor. Wie bei den früheren Bänden wurde auf Grund der unterschiedlichen Vorbesitzer großes Gewicht auf die Darstellung der Geschichte jeder Handschrift gelegt, zugleich als Baustein für eine noch ausstehende Bibliotheksgeschichte Tirols. Zwei Register (Textanfänge, Kreuzregister für Autoren, Titel und Sachen), ein Abbildungsteil und mehrere Anhänge sowie eine CD-ROM, enthaltend den Katalogtext, Abbildungen zur Buchmalerei und Schriftspecimina zu allen Handschriften erleichtern die Benützbarkeit. Das Gesamtwerk ist auf ca. zehn Bände angelegt, der achte Band ist in Arbeit.

Until recently, the 1067 manuscripts held in the Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek für Tirol in Innsbruck (University and State Library for Tyrol in Innsbruck), of which 700 date to the Middle Ages, were only poorly accessible. For this reason, a catalogue based on the guidelines of the Commission for Paleography and Codicology of Medieval Manuscripts of the Austrian Academy of Sciences has been in preparation for several years, of which six volumes have been published to date. Like volumes 3-6, the 7th volume (Cod. 601-700) has been completed within the framework of a project funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) (all under the directorship of Dr. Walter Neuhauser). Because the order in the catalogue is based on the signatures, the 7th volume also covers a wide range of works. In comparison to the earlier volumes, here the proportion of modern manuscripts (later than 1500) is quite a bit higher, with 37 volumes; the number of German manuscripts (21) is also higher. Also included are one French and seven Italian manuscripts. The contents are primarily of a theological nature (somewhat more than half), but the number of historical manuscripts (22) is relatively high. Notable are four codices that contain translations of theological texts in an early form of New High German ("gemeines Deutsch") (Cod. 618, 626, 635 und 641). It was possible to ascribe an author to many of the anonymous texts found in the manuscripts. As in the earlier volumes, because of the various previous owners, emphasis has been placed on the history of each manuscript; this has also been done as a basis for a future history of Tyrolean libraries. The Catalogue can be easily used due to two registers (text beginnings, cross-references to authors, titles and objects), a section of illustrations and several appendices. A CD-ROM containing the text of the Catalogue, illustrations of book illuminations and writing samples from all of the manuscripts is also included. The entire work is planned to have 10 volumes; the 8th is currently in progress.
