InstallingDokuWikiis very easy - ingeneral it's just a matter of unpacking and setting permissions. You shouldfirst try to follow the simple instructions given here, if you encounterproblems or the instructions are not detailed enough for you, follow one of thelinks below.
Step 1:Download the newest release from theDownload Page.
Step 2:Extracting a .gz archive
Probably all ofyou can use the following:
tar -xzvf dokuwiki-YYYY-MM-DD.tgz
Step 3: change dokuwiki file name
After youtarthe dokuwiki file, the name may bedokuwiki-YYYY-MM-DD,you can change it for keeping the same with following steps:
mv dokuwiki-YYYY-MM-DD wiki
Step 4: set up permissions
Thefollowing permissions must be modified for the respective DokuWiki functions towork:
data/ and data/tmp/ directory: All files in and below thesedirectories must be writable by the web process for DokuWiki to work.
lib/plugins/ directory: This directory must be writable by the webprocess for theplugin-Manager to work
lib/ directory: This directory must be readable by the public forstyle sheets to display. 755 works fine.

Step 5 : installing dokuwiki on hosted webspace
openhttp://www.yourserver.com/path/to/dokuwiki/install.php,For example, if your dokuwiki path is/var/www/wikion your local host, you can type: http://localhost/wiki/install.php.
you probably will get some permission errors,fixthem
