我的第一篇中英双语博客居然不是在说吃。Not about food.

刚才写这个标题的时候吐了一点点。脸皮还是吹弹可破。

I think I just threw up a little in my mouth writing this title. But oh well.

距离我上一次假装要经常更新公众号又过了三个多月了，谢谢你们没有取关我。老不更新的好处就是大多数人都忘了有这么一个公众号了，也就忘了取消关注。你们这三个月过的好不好？有什么好玩的事？给我评论让我一起乐呵乐呵。

Anyway, it's been over 3 months since I last pretended I was gonna update my 公众号 frequently, thanks for still being here. I guess one of the perks of not updating all the time is that most people tend to forget this 公众号 exists at all, and consequentially forget to unfollow. How have you been these past 3 months? 我这三个月没什么时间想公众号的事，因为我做出了人生中最正确的一个决定，就是和喵星文明建立了沟通，迎来了我的室友Phoebe。我第一次养宠物，再加上我本来就过度敏感和过度换位思考的性格，你可想而知这三个月我是怎么过的。

I haven't had much time for this 公众号 lately mainly because I've made a life-changing decision. I beamed a friendly signal at cat civilization and welcomed my first-time ever feline roommate Phoebe into my home. It's no brainer as to how I spent my past 3 months if you know how sensitive I can be and how sometimes I can put myself in others' shoes a little too much. 

让我觉得挺好玩的是，听到我领养Phoebe的消息以后，我回答最多的问题竟然是“这个猫是什么品种”？这和我预期不符。本来我跟随小明的爷爷修炼【不管闲事】这个神功已经有一段时间了，效果不错。但是今天反正你也不小心打开了这篇文章，我就忍不住要BB几句。

Now what surprised me a little when people heard that I got a cat was their reaction. The most frequently asked question was, and still is, 'What breed is your cat?'. This is something out of my expectation. And despite the fact that I'd been practicing sticking my nose into the right place(hint: not other people's business), I just had to get what I'm about to say out of my chest.

主题：领养代替买卖。Adopt, don't shop.道德制高点太高，我懒得爬上去占领，这是我对人与动物关系的认知，你可以不同意。

Basically, adopt, don't shop. I'm gonna save myself the trouble of sounding like I'm trying to take the high road here. This is merely my understanding of our relationship with animals, feel free to disagree. 

虽然这个话题在世界范围内已经聊烂了，但如果这是你第一次意识到除了去宠物店买一直狗/猫，你还可以考虑领养。那你已经迈出伟大的第一步了，没事儿就再走两步儿。

Much as this topic has been discussed repeatedly worldwide, this might be the very first time you ever think about the difference between adopting a dog/cat from an animal shelter and buying one from a pet store. Noticing the difference is a good start, keep going. 

“我的邻居张二狗养了一只苏格兰折耳猫，可爱死了，怎么就不好了？”谢谢这位同学的提问。

"My neighbor Dixie Small(I thought hard for this name, if you aren't laughing, shame on you.) has this cute little Scottish fold cat, ADORABLE, what's wrong with that?' Well, I'm glad you asked. 

1. 动物数量过剩

世界上已经有数不清的猫猫狗狗了，你没看见是因为很多都住在动物收容所里，全球对于收容动物的政策几乎都一样，定期内没有人领养的动物会被执行安乐死。所以现在问题的重点不是开源了，是把已经节流下来的安排好去处。任何一个进行宠物繁育的商家或者个人在这个问题上都没做出什么积极贡献，所以请你千万别告诉我你是从正规宠物店买的狗/猫，或者你是花3000块钱从朋友那里’领养‘的，这个信息对我没有任何意义。

1. Overpopulation Crisis

The world is already facing an animal overpopulation crisis. You may not feel like you see a lot of stray animals because most of them live in an animal shelter, living in an animal shelter means that they will be euthanized if not adopted within a certain period of time. So it's not about bringing more animals to the world, it's about taking good care of the ones we already have. All breeders make absolutely no contribution to this issue and fuel the animal overpopulation crisis by producing animals for sale. Oh, and FYI, there is no 'responsible breeder', and there's no 'adopting a cat from a friend for 3000 RMB' either, so save your breath. 

2. 动物本身的健康问题

'纯种‘狗/猫为了保持血统的纯正，就意味着要和同种狗/猫交配繁殖，这本来就是一个很小的基因库了，有些无良商家甚至会选择近亲交配，只为了繁育外表更招人喜欢的宠物。这就意味着纯种的动物更容易携带基因缺陷，更容易受到疾病的困扰。如果你愿意站的更远看这个问题，人类挑选特定外表的动物交配保证血统纯正这个事和阿某夫希某勒还有多大区别？(你们自己想象一下我WTF的黑人问号脸吧。)

2.    Breeding Trouble

Purebred dogs/cats are more likely to suffer from painfuil and life-threatening diseases and genetic defects. The reason is simple. To create a prebred puppy/kitten, you need 2 dogs/cats from the exact same gene pool which is already limited, not to mention the fact that many breeders choose to inbreed, that is to use dogs/cats from the same family gene pool to create more dogs/cats. Now if you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, humankind choosing animals with certain physical characteristics to breed in order to obtain more purebred animals, how different does that make us and Adolf You-Know-Who!!!!

我本身十二万分不想成为养了3个月的猫就化身世界动物保护组织首席狗/猫权观察者的那种人，但是我觉得这个信息，值得我BB几句，向我虽然为数不多但是综合素养极高的阅读者们传播一下。下面我给大家介绍几个可以领养的渠道吧：

The last thing I wanna do is act like the head of PETA after having a cat for 3 months, but I do believe this message is important for my extremely intelligent readers, however few there may be. Now please allow me to introduce you to some ways through which you can adopt your own pet. 

1. Search 'ICVSCHINA' in WeChat 公众号, International Center for Veterinary Services is an animal hospital that posts adoption information from time to time.

2. Search '领养小铺' on Weibo, the famous Little Adoption Shop created by Chris Barden, an American animal rescuer. 

3. Search '北京领养日' on Weibo.

3. Search '北京猫咪救助领养’ on Weibo.

当然了，也免不了有的时候我觉得自己很虚伪，吃汉堡吃的比谁都香，一抹嘴儿来讨论买卖还是领养宠物的问题，牛和猫的区别又在哪儿呢？这个问题我现有的思维和食欲还不允许我研究透彻，但是我愿意先从陪伴型动物开始，谈不上让这个世界变得更好，但是在可能的情况下尽量少给这个世界再添堵吧。请大家相信，在这一点上狗/猫和孩子一样，哪个血统不重要，只要是你的，你就会无条件宠爱它。

There are times I wonder if I'm a hypocrite. After all I do enjoy juicy burgers, and then I go and talk up a storm about buying or adopting pets. Cows, dogs, cats, where do you draw the line really? Well, I can only say for now that this issue is still beyond comprehension for both my brain and my stomach, but I'd love to make a small change starting with animals that keep us company, making the world a better place might sound a bit much, but knowing you're not causing more trouble to the world is definitely reassuring. Trust me, if there's any similarity a pet shares with a baby, it's that as long as it's yours, you are gonna want to shower it with unconditional love. 

人年纪大了，话也多。圣诞节快到了，你们打算怎么吃？感恩节我烤了一只火鸡，很成功，但是我感觉有点大，同样的方法可以复制到普通鸡上，要不下次我们烤只鸡？你们说呢？

With aging comes nagging problems. On a more festive note, Christmas is just around the corner, what's your plan for food? I roasted a turkey on Thanksgiving, it was a great success, though the turkey was unnecessarily big. I feel the same technique can be used on a chicken as well, what do you say we roast a chicken next time?

This is my first time writing both in Chinese and in English, multi-tasking has never been my strongsuit.
