Have you ever wondered what cookies are and what they are used for?

Cookies are packets of information send by the website to your browser.
Cookies are stored by browser on user's HDD/SSD
A cookie is a piece of data. It can be used to record your preferences, your browsing activities, track you browsing history, remember you credit card number and password, etc. so that the website can recommend the possible goods that you likely to buy, you do not need to re-enter your credit card number and password in future.
Cookies are not program code but simply pieces of data. They can't perform any operations on your computer.
Cookies are subject to privacy and security concerns because
1. User does not know what information is stored and so may feel their privacy is affected.
2. Sensitive information stored in cookies could be intercepted in transmission
3. Other websites could gain access to the cookies stored on a user's computer
