<span style="font-size:14px;">How you use the Lookup Service depends on your needs, including what services you need to connect to and what kind of authentication you want to use. You can use the Lookup Service for the following:

Retrieve the vCenter Single Sign-On Service endpoint from the Lookup Service so that you can get a SAML token.

Retrieve a vCloud Suite endpoint for a single node from the Lookup Service so that you can make a request of any vCloud Suite service on a specified node.

Retrieve all vCloud Suite endpoints from the Lookup Service so that you can accomplish the following goals:

Determine a node ID for filtering endpoint requests

Query all VMware vCenter Server™ instances on a federated data center

Retrieve the WS-API endpoint and other management node endpoints from the Lookup Service so that you can access vCenter Server or more specialized services, such as storage monitoring.
Some of these retrieval operations depend on whether you need to get a management node ID. These operations might also depend on obtaining a service endpoint or a list of service endpoints from the Lookup Service.</span>
