Internationalization

微软网站关于Internationalization的介绍,应该覆盖了绝大部分的Internationalization.特别在细节方面。 http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/getwr/steps/wrguide.mspx
 
下面就把概念细化下, 整个Internationalization的结构如下:

  Globalization
  Localizability
  Customizability
   Componentization

 Market Customization
有些地方会把Market Customization合到Localization,但因为Market Customization的重要性,在微软一般都是分开的.
World-Readiness这部分是开发team做的.
Localization基本是做文本,图片等的翻译,一般是本地人员作.
Customizability中Componentization的例子 : 根据市场不同和不同的短信合作商合作,配置不同的参数.Extensibility一般比较难做/少做,因为这个要涉及到coding,在全球化产品中尽量少的特例. 这也正是微软,google在中国市场反应慢的原因。
 
名词解释:
Internationalization : Processes associated with globalizing, localizing and customizing products & services for the global marketplace.
World-Readiness : The attribute (outcome) of a properly globalized, localizable & customizable product. i.e. Not world-ready if: 1) address book can  not allow Chinese to type lastname first and firstname last 2) failure to display localized UI correctly
Globalization : Ability to offer services in many languages and markets as we choose. 比如 : 排序, 日期显示. 总之,不同语言和市场有同样的服务,同样的操作流程。将不同语言和市场的区别屏蔽掉,保证产品对外是一样的。
Localizability : The ability to localize a service without any changes to source code. i.e. Not localizable if: 1)failure to display  localized content properly – truncation, overlapping, wrong font 2) mixture of strings and code
Customizability : The ability to change the user experience to better suite different markets. i.e. 1) feature ‘on/off switches, 2) configurable links in header/footer
Componentization : The ability to add/ replace features with market specific features without changing code. i.e. 1) US accounting rules replaced with UK accounting rules
Extensibility : The ability to add new scenarios to the user experience with changing code. i.e. 1) Adding new UK accounting rules
Localization : Translating ‘localizable resources’ to a given target language. i.e. 1) string translation 2) formatting
Market Customization : Changing the user experience (functionality & content) through marketization resources
Locale : Identifies cultural, language script, or national conventions for a particular place of country.  It is a combination of language and country (e.g., fr-fr, zh-cn)
 
Globalization VS. Market Customization
Globalization的东西是由语言市场决定的,是不可以配置的,是固有存在的. 比如中国是姓在名前,西方是相反的
Market Customization的东西是可以配置的,比如坏词过滤
 
Localization VS. Market Customization
localization是文本,图片等静态的东西
Market Customization是功能方面的
