Code | Reason | Explanation |
| Reserved | Normal working operation |
| Unspecific Reason (WLAN_REASON_UNSPECIFIED) | We don’t know what’s wrong |
| Previous authentication no longer valid (WLAN_REASON_PREV_AUTH_NOT_VALID) | Client has associated but is not authorised. |
| Deauthenticated because sending STA is leaving (or has left) IBSS or ESS (WLAN_REASON_DEAUTH_LEAVING) | The access point went offline, deauthenticating the client. |
| Disassociated due to inactivity (WLAN_REASON_DISASSOC_DUE_TO_INACTIVITY) | Client session timeout exceeded. |
| Disassociated because AP is unable to handle all currently associated STAs (WLAN_REASON_DISASSOC_AP_BUSY) | The access point is busy, performing load balancing, for example. |
| Class 2 frame received from nonauthenticated STA (WLAN_REASON_CLASS2_FRAME_FROM_NONAUTH_STA) | Client attempted to transfer data before it was authenticated. |
| Class 3 frame received from nonassociated STA (WLAN_REASON_CLASS3_FRAME_FROM_NONASSOC_STA) | Client attempted to transfer data before it was associated. |
| Disassociated because sending STA is leaving (or has left) BSS (WLAN_REASON_DISASSOC_STA_HAS_LEFT) | Operating System moved the client to another access point using non-aggressive load balancing. |
| STA requesting (re)association is not authenticated with responding STA (WLAN_REASON_STA_REQ_ASSOC_WITHOUT_AUTH) | Client not authorized yet, still attempting to associate with an access point. |
| Disassociated because the information in the Power Capability element is unacceptable
| Disassociated because the information in the Supported Channels element is unacceptable
| Reserved | Not Used or Special Purpose |
| Invalid information element.
| Message integrity code (MIC) failure
| 4-Way Handshake timeout
| Group Key Handshake timeout
| Information element in 4-Way Handshake different from (Re)Association Request/Probe Response/Beacon frame
| Invalid group cipher or Association denied due to requesting STA not supporting all of the data rates in the BSSBasicRateSet parameter | *NEW* The link speed requested by the client or AP is incompatible. (i,e. trying to operate N only speeds on a G AP) |
| Invalid pairwise cipher
| Invalid AKMP | |
| Unsupported RSN information element version
| Invalid RSN information element capabilities
| IEEE 802.1X authentication failed
| Cipher suite rejected because of the security policy
-31 | Reserved | Not Used or Special Purpose |
| Disassociated for unspecified, QoS-related reason | Quality of Service has denied the action. |
| Disassociated because QoS AP lacks sufficient bandwidth for this QoS STA
| Disassociated because excessive number of frames need to be acknowledged, but are not acknowledged due to AP transmissions and/or poor channel conditions
| Disassociated because STA is transmitting outside the limits of its TXOPs
| Requested from peer STA as the STA is leaving the BSS (or resetting)
| Requested from peer STA as it does not want to use the mechanism
| Requested from peer STA as the STA received frames using the mechanism for which a setup is required
| Requested from peer STA due to timeout
| Peer STA does not support the requested cipher suite
-65 | Reserved (for Realtek) #define WLAN_REASON_MESH_PEER_CANCELED 52 | Not Used or Special Purpose |
| Typically “No Reason Code” / Unknown State
| Reserved | Not Used or Special Purpose |
The first few reason codes where helpful while debugging my wifi related issues.
