DBCA Terminates With ORA-1092 When Creating New Database With SeedDB After Patchset is Applied [ID 756617.1]

 

Symptoms

After applying patchset 10.2.0.2 or 10.2.0.3 or 10.2.0.4, when creating a new database through DBCA using templates that includes a seedDB, DBCA terminates with ORA-1092.

The DBCA log will show:

alter database "o10202a" open resetlogs;
ORA-1092: ORACLE instance terminated. Disconnection forced

While the Alert.log shows:

Wed Dec 17 10:25:07 2008
Errors in file /u02/app/oracle/admin/orcl/udump/orcl1_ora_23364.trc:
ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure                                      <<<<<<<<<
ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option  <<<<<<<<<

Changes

Recently applied patchset 
Trying to create new database using any one of the following dbca templates:
- Data Warehouse
- General Purpose
- Transaction Processing

Cause

This problem was reported in several bugs 5857903, 5671191 [unpublished] with internal base Bug 5135678
, which is still being fixed.

Solution

Workarounds:
==========
1. Create a new database with custom option
OR
2. Create the database manually without using DBCA
OR
3. Create the database on 10.2.0.1 then upgrade
