Symptoms

Environment Summary: 2 node RAC - 112020 (asm) - AIX 6.1 - EMC - AIX native multipath

1) 11.2.0.2 Grid Infrastructure install shows device checks for ASM as failing.

Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) shows pre-requisite checks for ASM devices as failing, during Oracle Grid Infrastructure install:

2) The devices are properly configured and according to the steps outlined in Grid Install guide for this platform.

3) This issue is not AIX specific therefore could affect other platforms (Solaris, etc.)

4) If one ignores these errors/warnings, the install successfully completes.

Cause

This issue is tracked in Oracle bug:10052786 (unpublished) which will be fixed starting 11.2.0.3.0.



A new issue for 11.2.0.3 has been reported via non-published Bug:12876327. Also there, the install succeeds despite of these errors/messages. If a one-off or back port is not available for the requested Oracle Realease/Version and platform via the following link, then please request one via a Service Request (SR) with Oracle Support:  https://updates.oracle.com/download/12876327.html

Solution

If the Oracle ASM device path is not specified in the format /dev/rdsk/cMtNdXsY or /dev/did/rdsk/dXsY or /dev/md/rawdg/rdsk/dX, then the following error displays during the Oracle ASM device validation
prerequisite check:

PRVF-5150: Path /dev/rdsk/link/raw11 is not a valid path on all nodes

Workaround: Specify the character device name rather than the symbolic link name.
