To install the NVIDIA graphics driver from the NVIDIA run file on an AWS EC2 instance (e.g., p2.x instance), you can follow these steps:
-
Connect to Your EC2 Instance:
Use SSH to connect to your EC2 instance. Replaceyour-instance-ip
with the actual public IP address or DNS name of your instance and use the appropriate SSH key file.ssh -i /path/to/your/keyfile.pem ec2-user@your-instance-ip
-
Download the NVIDIA Driver:
You can download the NVIDIA driver run file from the NVIDIA website or from another trusted source. For example, to download version 460.106.00, you can usewget
:wget http://us.download.nvidia.com/tesla/460.106.00/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-460.106.00.run
Be sure to check the NVIDIA website for the latest driver version and update the URL accordingly.
-
Make the Downloaded File Executable:
chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-460.106.00.run
-
Stop the X Server:
Before installing the driver, it’s a good practice to stop the X server to prevent conflicts. You can do this by running:sudo systemctl stop display-manager
The command may vary depending on your Linux distribution and display manager.
-
Run the NVIDIA Driver Installer:
sudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-460.106.00.run
Follow the on-screen prompts to install the driver. You may need to accept the NVIDIA Software License Agreement and choose various installation options.
-
Reboot Your EC2 Instance:
sudo reboot
Rebooting the instance will load the new NVIDIA driver.
-
Verify the Driver Installation:
After your instance has rebooted, you can verify that the NVIDIA driver is installed and working correctly by running:
nvidia-smi
This command should display information about your GPU.
Please note that the process of installing the NVIDIA driver may vary slightly depending on the specific Linux distribution and instance type you are using. Always check the NVIDIA documentation and AWS documentation for any instance-specific considerations.
