ORA-12720: operation requires database is in EXCLUSIVE mode

when re-create controlfile of 2-nodes RAC database, database prompted the following errors:

 

ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01503: CREATE CONTROLFILE failed
ORA-12720: operation requires database is in EXCLUSIVE mode

 

Solution:

 

Shutdown all instances but keep one instance online, create a parameter file and modify the parameter cluster_database=false, startup nomount one instance using the modified parameter file, just do the re-creation. After done that, restart the database using the previous server parameter files.
