A possible solution of MySQL workbench cannot connect to local host error on MAC

Make sure your mysql server is running.

I will suppose your MySQL workbench was installed as default. Get into the terminal, type in:

cd /usr/local/mysql/bin

This will change your current directory to where the mysql/bin is. Then type in:

./mysql -u root -h localhost -p

As default, there is no password required, so you just type 'return'.

Within the terminal, type in the following after the 'mysql>':

SHOW GLOBAL VARIABLES LIKE 'PORT';

Here you will the port value. As on my Mac, it's 3307.

See, the default port value on workbench is 3306. That's the reason why I cannot get connected to the local server.
