Essbase only allows upto 80 characters in the alias name. Even if you change the member value in Planning, Essbase will reject all aliases with more than 80 characters.
If you want to store more length in Planning for reporting, you can use Smart list or use Text data type. The pull your reports against planning instead of essbase
