ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)解决方法

【附：mysql-version: 5.1.73】
今天登陆mysql时出现28000错误，网上的方法试用了不起效，倒腾良久终于知道问题所在了，给同样纠结于这个问题的童鞋们：
#service mysqld stop
#mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables 
#mysql -u root mysql
mysql> select host,user,password from mysql.user;    #竟然密码是用明文显示的

mysql> select password('123123');

mysql> update mysql.user set password='*E56A114692FE0DE073F9A1DD68A00 EEB9703F3F1'  where user='root';

mysql> select host,user,password from mysql.user;   #再次查看已为密文
