The conclusion of the How to read a paper 

一、The tree passes:

1、get a bird's eye to achieve a general idea of paper , 5-10 minutes 

1)title  abstract    introduction    2)  sub section and section heading (章节标题)  only  the heading   3)  mathematical content to determine the underlying theoretical foundations 4) conclusion   5) reference   

 after the first pass to  know:  1) category ,the type of the paper 2) context  related paper and theoretical bases  3) correctness   assumptions is valid??(generally is right ……)4）contribution :  main  goals     5)  clarity    是否清晰，well written.

a graphic abstract that summarizes a paper with a single well-chosen figure is an excellent idea and can be increasingly found in scientific journals

2、 make  comments  and question ,unknow terms or doubts   ,  at least one hour  

figures、 diagrams and other illustrations in the paper   graphs are important ,pay attention to the label and axis then distinguish the shoddy work from the excellent . the relevant references to read for knowing the background .

after the second pass:  grasp content of the paper and summarize the main thrust of the paper 

3、virtually re-implement the paper : make the same assumptions ,re-create the work , compare the results with actual paper .  great attention to details 

after this pass, reconstruct the entire structure of the paper from memory, identify its strong and weak points , pinpoint implicit assumptions ,missing citations to relevant work and potential issues with experimental or analytical techniques. 

二、a literature survey 

1、 find the summary of recent work ,  do this with the research-enging and key words   Google Schorlar   ,  find the survey 

2、find shared citations and repeated author names in the bibliography  and know the key researchers and find their websites  to know the top conference . (just suitable for the foreign researchers ,i think )

3、find the high quality related work to know the context
