Issue
After you run theUninstaller for Adobe Acrobat, or a version of Adobe Creative Suitethat contains Acrobat, files remain in the folder C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Acrobat [version]\Resource\CMAP\.
If you try to delete thesefiles manually fails with error, "Access is Denied."
Reason
Because these files needto be accessed by functions of Acrobat which run as a Service inWindows, they are marked as being owned by the System, and thelocal Administrator's group does not have permission to deletethem.
Solution
Note: For theseinstructions to work, you must be logged in to Windows with anaccount which is a member of the local or domain Administratorsgroup of user accounts. Step 1: Change the owner of theCMap folder and it's contents.
- Go to C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Resource\
- Right-click on the CMapfolder and choose Properties from the context menu
- In the CMap Propertieswindow, select the Security tab
- In the Security tab,click the Advanced button
- In the Advanced SecuritySettings for CMap window, select the Owner tab
- In the Owner tab clickthe Edit button*
*If using Windows Vista with User Account Control enabled, you'llneed to click Continue to permit Windows to continue with theaction - In the new Owner tabdialog box, select your name (computername\username) in the "Changeowner to:" field,log in as Administrator,and choose it.
- Check the"Replace owneron sub-containers and objects" option
- Click the Applybutton
- At the Windows Securityprompt: "If you have just taken ownership of this object, you willneed to close and reopen this object's properties before you canview or change permissions." click the OK button.
- Click the OK button toclose the Advanced Security Settings... Edit Owner dialogbox
- Click the OK button toclose the Advanced Security Settings dialog box
- Click the OK button toclose the CMap Properties dialog box
Step 2: Adjust thepermissions on the CMap folder and it'scontents.
- In the CMap Propertieswindow, click the Edit... button.
- In the CMap Propertieswindow, select the Security tab
- In the Security tab,click the Advanced button
- Check the "Includeinheritable permissions for this object's parent"option
- Click the Editbutton*
*If using Windows Vista with User Account Control enabled, you'llneed to click Continue to permit Windows to continue with theaction - Check the "Includeinheritable permissions for this object's parent"option
- Check the "Replace allexisting inheritable permissions on all descendants withinheritable permissions from this object" option
- Select the local ordomain administrators group, and click the Edit button
- Check the "Apply thesepermissions to objects and/or containers within this containeronly" option
- Check the Allow optionnext to the Full Control permission
- Click the OKbutton
- Click the OK buttonagain
- Click the Yes button inthe Windows Security alert which reads, "This will replaceexplicitly defined permissions on all descendants of this objectwith inheritable permissions from CMap. Do you wish tocontinue?"
- Click the OK buttonagain
- Click the OK button onelast time to exit the CMap Properties dialog box
Step 3: Delete theCMap folder.
- Making sure that the CMapfolder is selected click the delete key on you computer keyboard,or drag it to the Recycling Bin
- In the Delete File dialogbox, click theYes or Continuebutton*
