centos 6.5 install GUI and for tiger-vnc:
https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server
- install tigervnc
[root@fuel ~]# rpm -q tigervnc
tigervnc-1.1.0-5.el6_4.1.x86_64
otherwise, install it via:
yum install tigervnc-1.1.0-5.el6_4.1.x86_64 -y
- Install Desktop
If you are running CentOS 6, the command is:
yum groupinstall Desktop -y
- run vncserver
For first time, it will let you input password and generate /root/.vnc/xstartup. We will modify this file
- change configuration
vim /root/.vnc/xstartup
the updated file should be like:
#!/bin/sh
( while true ; do xterm ; done ) & --> this is newly added line
[ -r /etc/sysconfig/i18n ] && . /etc/sysconfig/i18n
export LANG
export SYSFONT
vncconfig -iconic &
unset SESSION_MANAGER
exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
[ -x /etc/vnc/xstartup ] && exec /etc/vnc/xstartup
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
vncconfig -iconic &
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
twm &
Check the log file to find some errors if have, if missing some command like xinitrc command not found or xterm not found, use:
yum whatprovides xinitrc
yum whatproivdes twm
then use yum install < package name> -y to install
- Kill the first session and re-submit
vncserver -kill :1
vncserver
use vnc vivewer to login
