The  Fireboy 小金匠

This is the story of hapu.
这是哈普的故事。
He lives in Ancient Egypt at the time of Queen Cleopatra. （克娄巴特拉女王）
他生活在古代埃及克娄巴特拉女王的时代。
His faher,Bak,has a small factory.He makes gold tables and chairs.
他的父亲，巴克，拥有一个小工厂，制作黄金桌子和椅子。
Hapu helps him.He is a “fireboy”.
哈普给他父亲帮忙，是一个小火匠。
Everyday he pushes a long handle up and down.
每天的工作是上上下下推动一个长长的把手。
The work is hot and very hard.
工作起来又热，还非常艰难。
But what can he his father do?
但是，他父亲又能怎样呢？
They are poor people.They need to make money.
他们是穷人，需要赚钱。

Every evening they sit beside the Nile.
每天晚上他们都会坐在尼罗河边。
Bak talks to his son about the factory,tomorrow`s work-everything.
巴克会和儿子谈起工厂以及明天要做的所有事情。
“One day we’re going to be very rich,”he tells Hapu.
“总有一天我们会富有的，”他对哈普说。
“Are we?”The fireboy looks into his father`s tired eyes.
“我们？”小火匠盯着父亲疲惫的眼睛。
“Yes.”Bak smiles.”I don`t know how and I don`t know when,but we are.”Then he stands up.
“对。”巴克微笑着说，“我不知道怎么做，也不知道什么时候，但总有那一天的。”接着他站起来。
“Come on,”he says. “It`s late. Let`s go home.”
“来吧，”他说道，“天晚了，我们回家吧。”

Three days later Hapu and Bak are making a table.
三天后，哈普和巴克正在做一张桌子。
It`s very hot in the room.
房间里非常热。
Suddenly Bsk stops work.
巴克突然停了下来。
“What is it, father?”Hapu saks. “Is something wrong?”
“怎么啦，父亲？”哈普问，“出了什么问题了？”
“I don`t know,”Bak answers.He closes his eyes.
“我不知道，”巴克回答。他闭上了眼睛。
“It`s my head.I can`t…”And then he falls on the ground.
“是我的头，我不能…”，随后他摔倒在地上。
“Father!”Hapu runs to Bak and puts one hand under his hesd. “Father—are you all right?”
“父亲！”哈普跑到巴克跟前，把手枕在他的头下说，“父亲，你还好吗？”

The next day Bak stays in bed.
第二天，巴克躺在床上。
“I`m sorry.Hapu,”he says. “I want to work but I can`t. I`m ill.”
“对不起，哈普，”他说，“我想去工作，但去不了了。我病了。”
Hapu is very sad. “Father works too hard,”he thinks.
哈普非常伤心，“父亲工作得太劳累了，”他想。
“That`s why he`s ill.Weneed more money—but what can I do?”
“这就是他生病的原因。我们需要更多的钱——但我能做什么呢？”
Then he has an idea. “Of course!”he thinks.
接着，他想出了一个主意。“当然这样了！”他想着。
“I must make something for somebody very rich. Somebody like…the Queen!”
“我一定要为有钱的人做些东西，比如女王！”

Bak is ill for two weeks.
巴克病了两个星期。
In that time Hapu makes a lot of tables and chairs.
在那段时间里哈普制做很多桌子和椅子。
But not only tables and chairs .
但是他所做的不仅仅是椅子和桌子。
He makes a gold necklace,too.
他还做了一条金项链。
There!”he thinks late one night.”It`s ready. “he smiles.
“成了。”后来的一个晚上，“终于可以了。”他笑了。
The necklace is very beautiful.
项链非常漂亮。
“Queen Cleopatra is going to like this.”Hapu thinks.
 “克娄巴特拉女王会喜欢的。”哈普想。
“She`s going to pay a lot of money for it,too I know she is.”
“她也会为这条项链付很多钱的。我知道她会的。”

The next morning he goes to Cleopatra`s palace.
第二天早上他去了克娄巴特拉女王的宫殿。
The necklace is in a bag under his shirt.
项链藏在衬衫里面的一个袋子里。
“What du you want?”asks a palace guard.There are two guards.Each one has a sword.
“你要干什么？”一个宫殿卫兵问他。这里有两个卫兵，每人拿着一把宝剑。
“I want to see the Queen,”Hapu answers.
“我要去见女王，”哈普回答说。
Both guards laugh. “Go home,boy,”saya one of them.
两个卫兵都笑了起来，“回家吧，孩子。”一个卫兵说。
“Queen Cleopatra doesn`t see people like you. ”
“克娄巴特拉女王是不会见想你这样的人的。”

Hapu is very unhappy.
哈普非常不开心。
“What do I do now?”he thinks.
“我现在怎么办呢？”他想。
He leaves the palace and begins to walk home.
他离开了宫殿，开始往家中走去。
But ten minutes later he passes two nem in the market.
但是10分钟后，他与市场中的两个人擦身而过。
“Cleopatra`s women are coming here tomorrm morning,”says one.
“克娄巴特拉女王明天早上要来这里。”一个人说。
“They`re arriving very early.They want to buy lots of new clothes for her”.
“他们会很早来，她们要给女王卖很多新衣服。”
“That`s very good news,”Hapu thinks.
“真是一个非常好的消息啊。”哈普想。

The next day the fireboy gets up very early.
第二天小火匠非常早就起来了。
He makes a cup of sweet tea for Bak.
他给巴克做了一杯加糖的茶。
Then he goes to the market.
接着他就去了市场。
“I can give the necklace to Cleopatra`s women,”he thinks. “They can give it to the Queen for me.”
“我可以把这条项链给克娄巴特拉的女仆，”他想，“他们就可以替我把它交给女王了。”
He waits and waits.For a long time nothing happens.
他等啊等啊。很长一段时间什么事情都没有发生。
Then music starts to play.A moment later Hapu sees a long line of people.They are coming from the palace.
随后音乐开始奏响。一小段时间后，哈普看到了一长队人。他们从宫殿方向走来。

Is sitting in it.Hapu puts one hand across his eyes.
谁在里面坐着呢？哈普把一只手搭在眼眶上。
It`s the Queen!”he thinks. “She`s coming,too!”
“是女王！”他想，“她也来了！”
A minute later Cleopatra arrives.
一分钟后，克娄巴特拉来了。
Suddenly everyone is very quiet.
每个人都突然变得非常安静。
Then Hapu thinks, “This is the moment.”
随后哈普想，“就是这个时候了。”
He runs in front of Cleopatra`s chair. “Stop!”he says. “please.stop!”
他跑到克娄巴特拉女王的椅子前面。“停一停！”他说，“请停一停！”

The Queen looks at him. “What do you want?”she asks.Hapu gives her the necklace.
女王看着他，问道：“你想要什么？”哈普把项链递给了她。
“Is this really your work?”asks Cleopatra.
“这真的是你的作品吗？” 克娄巴特拉女王问。
“Yes,yes,it is,”Hapu answers.
“是，是，是的。”哈普回答。
“Guards!”says Cleopatra. “Give this boy some money”.
“卫兵！”克娄巴特拉女王说，“给这个孩子一些钱。”
She holds the necklace in her hands.
她把项链拿在手中。
“This is beautiful”,she says.Then she leaves.
“真漂亮，”她说，接着就走了。

Hapu runs home.He is very,very happy.
哈普跑回家，他非常非常高兴。
Bak is in bed. “Look!”Hapu says. He shows the money from Cleopatra`s necklace to his father.
巴克躺在床上。“看！”哈普说，他给父亲看那些为克娄巴特拉女王做项链赚来的钱。

“But how…?”Bak closes his eyes,then opens them again.
“但，你怎么…?”巴克闭上了眼，接着又睁开了。
“I don`t understand,”he says.Hapu smiles.
“我不明白，”他说。哈普笑了。
He sits down and tells his father everything.
他坐了下来，给父亲讲了发生的一切。
At the end of the story Bak says, “You`re a good son,Hapu. Thank you.”
故事讲完了，巴克说，“哈普，你是一个好孩子。谢谢你。”

That night Hapu looks up at the stars.
那天晚上，哈普看着夜空中的星星。
“Now I can pay for a doctor to visit father”he thinks.
“现在我能请一个医生来帮父亲看病了，”他想。
“Then,after father is strong again…”
“等父亲又变好后…”
But at that moment he stops.
但是此刻他停住了。
One of Cleopatra`s guards is standing in front of him. He has a big sword.
一个克娄巴特拉女王的卫兵正站在他的面前，拿着一把很大的宝剑。
“Are you Hapu,son of Bak?”he asks.
“你是哈普，巴克的儿子？”他问。
Hapu look at him. “Yes.yes,I am,”he answers.
哈普看着他。“是。是的，我是，”他回答。

“Come with me,”says the guard.
“跟我来，”这个卫兵说。
“Queen Cleopatra likes your work.She wants to give you a job at the palace.”
“克娄巴特拉女王喜欢你的作品。她想给你一个宫殿里的工作。”
“But I have a job,”Hapu says.
“但是我有工作，”哈普说。
“I work with my father.I can`t leave him.You don`t underst…
“我为我父亲工作。我离不开他。你不明白…”
“No,you don`t understand,”the guard says.
“不，是你不明白，”卫兵说。
“When the Queen gives you a job,you take it.”He puts one hand on his sword.
“当女王给你工作时，你就要接受。”他把一只手放到了宝剑上。
“Now go and say goodbye to your father.”
“现在去和你的父亲告别吧。”

At the palace Cleopatra talks to Hapu.
在宫殿里克娄巴特拉女王在和哈普说话。
She si wearing his necklace.
她正戴着那条项链。
“I want you to live here and make lots of beautiful things for me,”she says.
 “我想让你住在这里给我做很多漂亮的东西，” 她说。
“Thank you,Queen of the Nile,”Hapu says.
“谢谢你，尼罗河的女王，”哈普说。
“But…”“Bur?”The Queen looks at Hapu.
“但是…”“但是？”女王看着哈普。
“But…I can`t live here.You see,my father is very ill and…”Hapu tells the Queen everything.
“但是…我不能住在这儿。您看，我父亲病得很重，而且…”哈普把所有的事情告诉了女王。

At the end of Hapu`s story, Cleopatra looks at him.
哈普说完之后，克娄巴特拉女王看着他。
“All right,”she says.
“这样吧，”她说，
“You can go home to your father.But…”
“你可以回家和你父亲一起。但是…”
“But?”asks Hapu.
“但是？”哈普问。
“But from today,the two of you work only for me.Do you understand?”
“但是从今天起，你们两个只能为我工作。你明白吗？”
“Oh yes!”Hapu smiles.He is very happy.
“是，我明白！”哈普笑了，他非常高兴。
Now he and his father can make lots of beautiful things and be rich.
现在他和他的父亲可以制作许多漂亮的东西，也会变得富有。
“Yes,I understand.”
“是，我明白。”
