1)       Very easy to install.

2)       PHP module available.

3)       Very easy replication, including master-master support. In testing this

       caught up with our live DB very quickly and stayed in sync without difficulty.

4)       Automated sharding being developed.

5)       Good documentation.

1) I didn't want to write a sharding layer internally when that task could be outsourced to a third party.
2) It's convenient to use the same datastore tech throughout our system, and there are lots of MongoDB features which are useful for our other (non checkin) storage needs. 3) We have a close relationship with 10gen.
