PHP Extension “mcrypt” is loaded

On installation, I get to the page “Configuration” and then I get this error message: PHP Extension “mcrypt” must be loaded I just talked to hostgator and they said that mcrypt is loaded… I have also installed magento v.7 on this server, so I know it should work and have some knowledge of the install process. At least, I did read the docs : ) I figure its something minor.. like the host isnt running a new enough version of mcrypt. I am going to open a support ticket in the meantime and imply that, just to see what happens. Any feedback to help get me going?

If you are running RedHat/Fedora you can easily install this extension with the following command: yum install php-mcrypt And eventually also: yum intall php-dom If you are running RHEL5 then they dont have support for PHP 5.2 yet (RHEL are SLOW updating php/mysql), but you can solve this by running: yum --enablerepo=remi update php And then: yum --enablerepo=remi install php-mcrypt yum --enablerepo=remi install php-dom Worked like a charm for me
