The bar graph showed in the figure indicates the great changes had taken place in Chinese people’s diet from 1997 to 2001 . It suggests that the diet mainly consists of four parts : grain, milk, meat, fruit and vegetables.
As is revealed in the table , during the five years , the consumption of grain gradual decline , while that of meat , milk , fruit and vegetables increased obviously . The consumption of meat and fruit and vegetables were under 20% in 1997 but increased obviously over the next four years. The meat , fruit and vegetables accounted for over 25% in diet in 2001 . The proportion of milk was smoothly increased from 10% to 13% during that 5 years .
From the bar graph we can draw the conclusion that grain , as the staple food in China , is playing a less important role in people’s diet, while the consumption of high-energy food, such as meat and milk, has increased steadily . What has caused these changes? From my point of view , there are two main reasons . On the one hand , people now have more money to buy high-energy food . On the other hand , people now pay more attention to the quality of their diet . They are seeking for the most reasonable diet structure that will do good to their health .
