A detachment fold is a fold formed above the region in which the displacement on a lower detachment dies out (Jamison, 1987). The term detachment fold is used here as a general geometric concept for any fold formed above a stratigraphically fixed detachment horizon and that does not have displacement transferred out of the structure on an upper detachment. A detachment fold may have a wide variety of internal geometries and limb-dip relationships (Jamison, 1987; Mitra, 1992; Epard and Groshong, 1993).
