Methodology and proposed method of analysis: Explain the research methodology you have chosen and why it is appropriate for your research question.

Preliminary Findings (if applicable): If you have begun data collection or

analysis, share some initial findings and highlight any unexpected challenges or insights.

Next Steps: Outline your research plan for the next stage of your dissertation, including data collection or analysis strategies.

Deliverables:

•    A pre-recorded presentation (5-7 minutes) using PowerPoint (or similar software) with clear narration and visuals (Mandatory)

•    A transcript if your presentation - verbatim (Mandatory).  Verbatim means word for word exactly as spoken.

The pre-recorded PowerPoint presentation will run between a minimum of 5 minutes and maximum of 7 minutes.

Modeling? Basic chi-square etc.). Similarly for qualitative analysis feel free to explain how you propose to code and analyze the data (thematic analysis? Narrative analysis?).

•    Be sure to draw upon relevant literature.

Be clear about next steps: "End your presentation with a clear statement of what is left to do, and when you will do it, and perhaps even how you will do it.

How to Prepare, Format, and Record Your Dissertation Progress Presentation (5-7 Minutes)

This guide will help you create a clear, concise, and engaging presentation showcasing your dissertation progress.

Preparation:

1. Content Organization: Review the assignment brief and ensure your presentation covers the key points: topic, literature review, methodology relevant to your area of study, and be sure you include your next steps as a final slide. MAN00164M Dissertation in Management Studies 2024Python

2. Scriptwriting: Craft a clear and concise script. that guides your narration within the 5-7-minute timeframe. On your slides, aim for no more that 25 written words per slide to avoid information overload while speaking.  Too many written words on a slide can really impact yourmessage. Let visuals and your voice do the talking for you, not a bunch of words on a slide.

3. Visual Aids: Prepare visually appealing slides that complement your narration. Use high-quality images, diagrams, and charts to illustrate your points effectively.  Feel  free to be creative but be sure you aim for quality, and content over quantity and

“bells and whistles” . Substance trumps beauty. However, substance and beauty together are very powerful.

4. Remember: Practice before recording to ensure you are on-time and your presentation is clear, concise and engaging.

Formatting:

Slide Count: For a 5–7-minute presentation, aim for 6-8 slides (not including title slide). This allows enough content without exceeding the time limit.

Slide Design: Maintain a consistent and professional design throughout your

slides. Use a clear and readable font, and remember to avoid text overload, and choose a color scheme that's easy on the eyes. Werecommend you use the York templates available at:

• YORK BRANDING AND POWERPOINT SLIDES TEMPLATES

Title Slide: you MUST include a title slide with your name, student ID, course title, and title of your dissertation

Content Slides: Each slide should focus on a key point. Use bullet points, short phrases, and visuals to highlight important information.

For your narrated transcript, its best to indicate what slide each text belongs to by using the slide number and title as the headings in your transcript.: e.g.

Recording:

1. Software: Use PowerPoint's built-in recording function or similar presentation

software that allows recording with narration. You can also use zoom or teams to record your presentation.

2. Environment: Choose a quiet location with minimal background noise. Ensure you have good lighting and a clean background if you appear on camera (optional).

3. Delivery: VERY IMPORTANT Practice your presentation beforehand to ensure  smooth delivery and clear audio. Speak clearly and confidently at a moderate pace.

4. Recording and Editing: Record your presentation and review the playback. Edit out any mistakes or awkward pauses.  You can use your video editing software and save it as amovie file.

Additional Tips:

Please rehearse with Timing: Practice your presentation while timing yourself to ensure you stay within the 5–7-minute limit.

Submit: Once satisfied with the recording, follow the instructions on the assignment submission site on VLE.

Submit on-time!

Remember: This is a progress report, so focus on the journey of your research and the direction you're headed. It is not expected that you have any results to talk about, but some of you may have done some pilot research so will add some preliminary results (this is good, but not expected at this stage of your progress)

By following these tips, you can create a compelling presentation that effectively showcases your dissertation progress and impresses your audience.

Sample Slides (This is just a suggestion – your order of slides may differ or you may have more or less slides, and you are free to format according to what’s best for your presentation, but feel free to use this suggestion if you prefer).
