Oracle Generic Connectivity and Transparent Gateways

Oracle provides various solutions for information integration. These solutions can be categorised in two groups: synchronous and asychronous. For more information on asynchronous information integration solutions refer to the Oracle Streams page. For synchronous information integration Oracle offers two solutions. They are Generic Connectivity and Transparent Gateways.

Oracle Generic Connectivity:

Generic connectivity was introduced in Oracle 8.1.6. This connectivity solution addresses the needs of data access to many data stores for which Oracle does not have a gateway solution. This feature enables transparent connectivity using industry standards ODBC and OLEDB

Oracle Transparent Gateways:

Oracle Transparent Gateways provide the flexibility, power, and scalability to transparently access many non-Oracle data stores, including Microsoft SQL Server, Informix, Ingres and Sybase, from an Oracle environment.
