一、课程简介(英文)

Deion

This Course is designed to enablestudents to use Information Technology (IT) systems and applicationsindependently to support a range of information processing activities. It isdesigned to develop a broad knowledge of the theoretical concepts, principles,boundaries and scope of IT applications. These activities will be centred onusing software applications packages (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML,Access) to meet complex information requirements while paying attention tosecurity and the needs of other users.

Objectives

On completion of the Course thestudents should be able to:

1. Operate a range of IT equipmentindependently, giving attention to security and to other users.

2. Use a range of softwareapplication packages to meet complex information requirements.

三、教学内容、学时分配和作业要求

This Course provides a general and practical introduction to information technology for students in all disciplines. it consists of the following modules:

(1)theory one: fundamental principles of information technology, the usage of application software, the basic concept of system software;

(2)theory two: fundamental principles of computer operation, the main hardware components of the computer, hardware selection and evaluation, data storage and retrieval;

(3)theory three: introduction to data communications, the internet, the web and electronic commerce;

(4)introduction to Windows Operations;

(5)introduction to Word Processing;

(6)introduction to Spreadsheets;

(7)introduction toPowerPoint Presentation;

(8)introduction to the world wide web and Web Page Design; and

(9)introduction to Databases.

Learning Outcomes

Including:

1. Students who complete successfully this subject will have knowledge and understanding of:

·The five parts of an information system: people, procedures, software, hardware, and data;

·Common features of most software applications;

·The differences between system software and application software;

·Basic functions of any operating system;

·The purpose of utilities and utility suites;

·the main hardware units of a computer, how they work, how they are interconnected and how processing is controlled in computers;

·input and output methods;

·how data is stored internally and externally;

·storage media;

·data communications and networking;

·Internet providers, connections, and protocols;

·Functions of the internet, the usage of search tools;

·Web utilities including Telnet, FTP, plug-ins, and helper applications;

·Electronic commerce including Web storefronts, auctions, and electronic payment;

·HTML language;

·The causes of some common software and hardware problems, (e.g. cable connections, device settings, software option settings) and what action to take to resolve these;

·Assessing information requirements and designing solutions using IT.

2. Students who complete successfully this subject will be able to:

·Use the tools within the operating system, e.g. file managers, print managers and control panels);

·know the ways in which data can be kept secure, (e.g. encryption, passwords, back-ups, virus protection) and how security procedures can be used to meet the needs of all users of a computer system;

·use Word processing;

·use Excel (functions, absolute and relative referencing, graphs);

·use PowerPoint;

·use Access (create tables, develop queries and reports);

·integrate data types within and/or from more than one software application package(s);

·extract and present relevant information from suitable local and remote computer data sources, and

·develop web pages using HTML.
