Title: Supporting collaborative sense-making in emergency management through geo-visualization
Research Questions:
This paper presents our research on the design of a collaborative sense-making system to support teamwork
Hypothesis:
Uses coordinated maps and activity visualization to aid decision-making as well as group activity awareness.
Methods:
We propose a multi-view,role-based design to help team members analyze geo-spatial information, share and integrate critical information, and monitor individual activities.
Evaluation:Systematically integrated field and lab methods to evaluate the prototype.
- Fieldwork: We demonstrated our system to the emergency management team and presented the major
features of the system.The team expressed interest in our design. - Lab: a between-subject design (face to face(paper) OR via software); 69 participants; avoid male dominance, create same gender groups;
Findings(Results):
Java system prototype:
(Forthepushacts,
we found that the difference between two treatments approaches significance(ß¼.26(0.15), po.08).For the pull
acts, the difference is significant(ß¼.81(0.15), po.001).)。
4 (Strongly disagree 1-7Strong agree)
Web-based prototype:

Design guidelines for geo-collaboration supporting system:
- provide both personal and shared maps;
- provide tools allow users to ass comments
- provide tools to sort and aggregate data
- leverage online maps to reduce the burden on technology management and learning.
Limitation:
