1.1.10 “Contract” means the Contract Agreement, the Letter of Acceptance, the Letter of Tender, and addendum referred to in the Contract Agreement, these Conditions, the Specifications, the Drawings, the Schedules, the Contractor's Proposal, the JV Undertaking (if applicable) and the further documents (if any) which are listed in the Contract Agreement or in the Letter of Acceptance.	1.1.1.1 “Contract” means the Contract Agreement, the Letter of Acceptance, the Letter of Tender, these Conditions, the Specification, the Drawings, the Schedules, and the further documents (if any) which are listed in the Contract Agreement or in the Letter of Acceptance.
和1999版红皮书相比，2017版红皮书在Contract的定义表述中多了合同协议中提及的Addendum， Contractor's Proposal以及 JV Undertaking这三类文件。 但需要注意的是在2017版红皮书通用条件中， Contractor's Proposal只在Contract和Tender这两个定义术语部分有出现,定义条款中并没有其定义(2017版黄皮书，2017版银皮书有专门的定义)。 此外，2017版红皮书通用条件第1.5条有关合同组成文件的规定中也并没有明确提及 Contractor's Proposal这一文件。 故在采用2017版红皮书的项目中，如果存在Contractor’s Proposal这个文件，则需要在定义条款中增加其定义且在合同条件第1.5条明确其在合同组成文件中的适用顺序。
1.1.11 “Contract Agreement” means the contract agreement entered into by both Parties in accordance with Sub-Clause 1.6 [Contract Agreement].	1.1.2 “Contract Agreement” means the contract agreement (if any) referred to in Sub-Clause 1.6 [Contract Agreement].
在2017版红皮书中，Contract Agreement指的是合同双方依据合同条件第1.6条签订的合同协议，除非合同双方另有约定，合同双方须在承包商收到Letter of Acceptance后35天内签署Contract Agreement。 在1999版红皮书中，Contract Agreement指的是合同条件第1.6条提及的合同协议(如果有)，除非合同双方另有约定，合同双方须在承包商收到Letter of Acceptance后28天内签署Contract Agreement。
1.1.12 “Contract Data” means the pages, entitled contract data which constitute Part A of the Particular Conditions.	1.1.1.9 “Appendix to Tender” means the completed pages entitled appendix to tender which are appended to and form part of the Letter of Tender.
新增定义术语，取代了1999版红皮书中的Appendix to Tender。在2017版红皮书中，Contract Data为专用条件的组成文件，但在1999版红皮书中，Appendix to Tender为Letter of Tender的组成文件。两者最大的区别就在于在合同组成文件中的效力层级。在1999版红皮书中，Appendix to Tender为Letter of Tender组成文件，其效力高于专用条件。但在2017版红皮书中，Contract Data为专用条件的组成文件，其效力低于Letter of Tender。
1.1.13 “Contract Price” means the price defined in Sub-Clause 14.1 [The Contract Price].	1.1.4.2 “Contract Price” means the price defined in Sub-Clause 14.1 [The Contract Price], and includes adjustments in accordance with the Contract.
在2017版红皮书中，Contract Price指的是合同条件第14.1条定义的价格，在1999版红皮书中，Contract Price指的是合同条件第14.1条定义的价格，包括按照合同发生的调整。故在2017版红皮书，1999版红皮书中的Contract Price皆为可以变化的金额。在使用红皮书作为项目合同时，承包商应当注意Contract Price和Accepted Contract Amount的区别。
1.1.14 “Contractor” means the person(s) named as Contractor in the Letter of Tender accepted by the Employer and the legal successors in title of such person(s).	1.1.2.3 “Contractor” means the person(s) named as contractor in the Letter of Tender accepted by the Employer and the legal successors in title to this person(s).
2017版红皮书及1999版红皮书都把承包商定义为业主接受的Letter of Tender中载明的承包商及其法律上的继承人。 承包商提交Letter of Tender后到业主发出Letter of Acceptance存在时间差，在这个时间差内提交Letter of Tender的承包商有可能因为合并重组等原因改变名称，故承包商的定义中明确了承包商包括其法律上的继承人。
1.1.15 “Contractor’s Documents” means the documents prepared by the Contractor as described in Sub-Clause 4.4[Contractor’s Documents], including calculations, digital files, computer programs and other software, drawings, manuals, models, specifications and other documents of a technical nature.	1.1.6.1 “Contractor’s Documents” means the calculations, computer programs and other software, drawings, manuals, models and other documents of a technical nature (if any) supplied by the Contractor under the Contract.
2017版红皮书将Contractor’s Documents定义为承包商按照合同条件第4.4条准备的文件，包括计算、电子文档、电脑程序及其他软件、图纸、手册、模型、规范及其他技术性质的文件。1999版红皮书将Contractor’s Documents定义为承包商按照合同提供的计算、电脑程序及其他软件、图纸、手册、模型及其他技术性质的文件(如有)。 需要注意的是2017版红皮书及1999版红皮书通用条件第1.10条将承包商文件和承包商准备的其他设计文件做了区分，故承包商的文件应当不包括承包商准备的设计文件。
1.1.16 “Contractor’s Equipment” means all apparatus, equipment, machinery,construction plant, vehicles and other items required by the Contractor for the execution of the Works. Contractor’s Equipment excludes Temporary Works, Plant, Materials and any other things intended to form or forming part of the Permanent Works.	1.1.5.1 “Contractor’s Equipment” means all apparatus, machinery, vehicles and other things required for the execution and completion of the Works and the remedying of any defects. However, Contractor’s Equipment excludes Temporary Works, Employer’s Equipment (if any), Plant, Materials and any other things intended to form or forming part of the Permanent Works.
2017版红皮书将Contractor’s Equipment定义为所有的器械、设备、机器、施工设备、车辆及其他承包商需要的用于实施工程的物品。Contractor’s Equipment不包括临时工程，设备，材料以及拟成为或正在成为永久工程一部分的其他物品。 1999版红皮书将Contractor’s Equipment定义为所有的器械、机器、车辆及其他承包商需要的用于完成工程及修补缺陷的的物品，但不包括临时工程，业主的设备(如有)，设备，材料以及拟成为或正在成为永久工程一部分的其他物品。 和1999版红皮书相比，2017版红皮书中的承包商设备多了equipment和construction plant两个种类，但是两个版本的红皮书都没有处理好Contractor’s Equipment和Temporary Works的关系。在两个版本的红皮书中，Contractor’s Equipment和Temporary Works的范围都为非穷尽性表述，实操当中存在具体的设备满足Contractor’s Equipment和Temporary Works定义条件的可能性。如果出现这种情况，则很有可能出现合同争议，因为按照通用条件第8.3条的规定，承包商须在提交计划时附带支持报告，支持报告里面须列明预估的设备数量、类型及其使用。如果一个具体设备同时满足Contractor’s Equipment和Temporary Works的定义表述，则承包和业主就该等设备是否需要在通用条件第8.3条要求的计划中体现可能会产生争议。
1.1.17 “Contractor’s Personnel” means the Contractor’s Representative and all personnel whom the Contractor utilises on Site or other places where the Works are being carried out, including the staff, labour and other employees of the Contractor and of each Subcontractor;and any other personnel assisting the Contractor in the execution o the Works.	1.1.2.7 “Contractor’s Personnel” means the Contractor’s Representative and all personnel whom the Contractor utilizes on Site, who may include the staff, labour and other employees of the Contractor and of each Subcontractor; and any other personnel assisting the Contractor in the execution of the Works.
2017版红皮书将 “Contractor’s Personnel”定义为承包商代表及所有承包商在现场或者实施工程的其他场所使用的人员，包括员工承包商及其分包商的员工、劳工及其他员工；以及协助承包商实施工程的其他人员。和1999版红皮书相比，2017版本红皮书中承包商人员的范围更广。
