如何用英文形容地理位置？

形容地理位置时，英文常见用词包括：lie、sit、stand、be located、be situated。这些词都有「位于、坐落于」的意思。其中，又可区分为主动及被动语态两种表达：

主动语态：lie、sit、stand

如果主词是「人」，lie、sit、stand 可以用来表达「躺、坐、站」等不同姿势。但如果前面是「物」，lie、sit、stand 则有「位于、坐落于」的意思。

● 基本句型：主词 + lie / sit / stand + 地方副词

Lie、sit、stand 后面不直接加上受词，而会加上地方副词，也就是「介系词 + 地方」。例如：

That small town sits 60 miles to the east of us.(那个小镇位于我们东边六十英里处。)

搭配「表方位相对位置」的介系词 to，以及地方 the east of us「我们东边」。

The tropical island lies 150 miles from the coastline.(那座热带岛屿距离海岸线 150 英里。)

搭配「表距离」的介系词 from，以及地方 the coastline「海岸线」。

● 倒装句型：地方副词 + lie / sit / stand + 主词

除了基本句型，不少英文文章为了让句型更加优美，会使用地方副词放句首的倒装句型。例如：

On the hillside stand rows of ramshackle redbrick buildings.(山腰上伫立着几排摇摇欲坠的红砖建筑。)

要注意的是：lie、sit、stand 会「跟着后面的主词」进行变化，所以这句的 stand 要跟着后面的复数主词 rows of ramshackle redbrick buildings，使用复数动词形式。

● 细微差异

表示「位于、坐落于」的时候，lie、sit、stand 等词通常可以互用，但如果明显是较平面的事物，象是河流，较常用 lie。例如：

You must go see the mighty river lying on the eastern side of the mountain range.(你一定要去看看位在山脉东侧的那条大河。)

相反地，如果是明显有高度的事物，象是城堡，较常用 stand。例如：

On top of the hill stands an ancient castle overlooking a winding river.(有座古堡矗立在山顶，俯视着蜿蜒的河流。)

被动语态：be located、be situated

使用被动语态 be located、be situated 表示地理位置时，句型跟 lie、sit、stand 类似。

● 基本句型：主词 + be located / be situated + 地方副词

后面同样不直接加上受词，而会加上地方副词(介系词 + 地方)。例如：

The Gothic cathedral is located on Fifth Avenue.(那座哥德式教堂位于第五大道。)

简单来讲，locate 和situate都可以表示“位于...”含义，但是，locate还可以表示“定位某物”或“找到某物” “查找”等。而situate不具备此含义。如：
