计算机图形学大会是计算机图形学学术交流的重要论坛，为与会学者提供广泛的学术交流平台，内容包括计算机图形学、虚拟现实、计算机动画等相关领域的最新的研究与开发成果。在国内，为了适应学科发展的新形势，更好地推动中国计算机辅助设计与图形学研究的发展，经Chinagraph指导委员会与中国计算机学会计算机辅助设计与图形学专业委员会协商，一致同意进一步整合资源，并建议创办中国计算机辅助设计与图形学大会这一全新的学术交流平台。国外一些顶级计算机图形学会议有ACM International Conference on Multimedia，ACM SIGGRAPH Annual Conference等。

计算机图形学(Computer Graphics，简称CG)是一种使用数学算法将二维或三维图形转化为计算机显示器的栅格形式的科学。简单地说，计算机图形学的主要研究内容就是研究如何在计算机中表示图形、以及利用计算机进行图形的计算、处理和显示的相关原理与算法。[1]

1963年，伊凡·苏泽兰(Ivan Sutherland)在麻省理工学院发表了名为《画板》的博士论文， 它标志着计算机图形学的正式诞生。至今已有五十多年的历史。此前的计算机主要是符号处理系统，自从有了计算机图形学，计算机可以部分地表现人的右脑功能了，所以计算机图形学的建立具有重要的意义。

中国计算机图形学大会(Chinagraph)是由中国计算机学会、中国自动化学会、中国图学学会、中国图像图形学会、中国系统仿真学会、香港多媒体及图像计算学会于1996年发起并联合主办，是中国计算机图形学界最高级别的学术会议，已成为华语学者计算机图形学学术交流的重要论坛。大会自创办以来每两年召开一次，为与会学者提供广泛的学术交流平台，内容包括计算机图形学、虚拟现实、计算机动画、数字图像处理、多媒体技术等相关领域的研究与开发成果，迄今为止已经成功举办了十届。每一届Chinagraph会议评选并颁发中国计算机图形学贡献奖和杰出奖各一名，表彰和奖励对中国计算机图形学的发展做出重大贡献和在计算机图形学理论、算法的研究和应用等方面成绩卓著的专家学者。同时，大会评选最佳论文奖1～3篇。

为了适应学科发展的新形势，更好地推动中国计算机辅助设计与图形学研究的发展，经Chinagraph指导委员会与中国计算机学会计算机辅助设计与图形学专业委员会协商，一致同意进一步整合资源，并建议创办中国计算机辅助设计与图形学大会这一全新的学术交流平台，并且将每两年召开一次的大会改为每年召开一次的年会，更好地服务于计算机辅助设计与图形学的学术界研究人员和产业界研发人员。[2]
